What format are you expecting the citation to have?
-
The preferred approaches for readability of DOIs are (1) publishers should mint shorter DOIs (this has largely happened—the SICI ones you mention aren’t really made anymore) or (2) embed the DOI link with the display text being the item title, a DOI…
-
You should not use shortDOI in references. I would not be surprised if the service were shut down at some point. If you do use them, I suggest keeping the 10/ for clarity.
-
Install the Zutilo plugin. Right click on the item. In the context menu, under Zutilo, choose Copy Zotero URI or Copy Zotero Select Link
-
You’re mistaken about MLA style. It’s an (Author), not (Author, Date), system. Zotero is producing correct MLA citations
-
You need to add a “locale” section to the top of the style and supply your alternative translation for the “available-at” term. See apa.csl for examples
-
That sounds like you are using a different style, such as _ASA_ style. Can you change to a different style and back and see if it persists
-
I think a shortcut like Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Enter/Return might make sense
-
The proper place for the DOI to be stored is the DOI field, like any other Zotero variable (author, title, etc). But only Journal Article and Conference Paper currently have a DOI field. For other types, additional citeable variables can be stored i…

Can you give more details? What are you wanting to use Zotero for, and what sort of problem are you wanting help to solve?
-
@dstillman Being able to right click on links (at least identifier links) in a PDF and then import them with Add by Identifier would be an amazing feature!
-
Can you give an example of what you want your references list to look like?
-
Is that the only difference ?
-
@dstillman We are getting a lot of questions about Word 2021 and also about M1 Mac support lately. Could we perhaps pin a thread for a bit stating that Zotero is fully compatible with Word 2021 and M1 Macs?
-
I would make the title “FBI Uniform Crime Explorer” and the publisher “Federal Bureau of Investigation”. I would leave author blank or alternatively make it “FBI” to make the intext citations shorter.
-
What citation style are you using ?
-
I would use Webpage for this. Include the title and publication date or access date
-
There was never a conflict between M1 and Zotero. Briefly when the M1 first launched, there was a macOS bug that affected communication between Zotero and Word. Zotero implemented a workaround, and the underlying macOS bug has since been fixed by Ap…
-
It will definitely be faster with an M1 Mac. Zotero works fine on those
-
Zotero works with Word 2021
-
You can edit the locale section of the style (or add one if there isn’t one there). Check out APA.CSL for an example of this
-
@rccline I would strongly recommend using CSL YAML or CSL JSON format when working with RMarkdown instead of Bib. pandoc needs to convert bib to CSL anyway, and that is a lossy process
-
@crestetson You said any style with the URL would be fine. I’d you have other style requirements, please say so. What style generally do you want to use? We can tell you how to edit it to include the URL.
-
Some websites don’t have great data, and that limits what Zotero can import. ERIC is very inconsistent. You should always check the data for completeness and accuracy after importing
-
To clarify, it is correct in APA style for initials or full names to be added to disambiguate citations. So there isn’t anything for you to fix.
-
The reference extractor can also select the existing items in your library that are cited by clicking the Select in Zotero button
-
Use this tool https://rintze.zelle.me/ref-extractor/ Open the document with the tool, click the Select items in Zotero button, then drag the items to a tag or collection.
-
If you want to transition from Mendeley to Zotero, see https://Zotero.org/support/kb/mendeley_import
-
No, those are not general problems. Change to a different style and back
-
The issue is that style is poorly written. The publisher macro should only be displayed for some item types. The style was written assuming that journal articles would never have publisher data, which is a bad assumption.
