Hi, here is the first version that extracts highlighted text from PDFs. The extraction is currently only working on the mac. There is a good chance that it's not going to work at a different computer but I am hopeful. Can anyone confirm whether it…

Great! I will send you an email.

The extraction of annotations and highlighted text is pretty much working now. I had to write a c++ command line tool based on the poppler library to accomplish the extraction of highlighted text (note annotations are pretty easy but highlighted tex…

The new version is now under review with some small changes compared to the last beta a updated. The review will take about a week but you can already download 0.4 from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/zotfile-reader/versions/ …

Hi, here is a new beta version with lots of changes for user-defined subfolders. http://www.columbia.edu/~jpl2136/zotreader_04b6.xpi Changes: - vastly improved user defined subfolders: - improved interface - easy to change the order of subf…

Currently it's not possible and I am not sure whether I will add that simply because it's creating multiple copies of a file. But currently, you have two options: (a) import the attachments (set destination to 'Attach stored file of file(s)' in the…

%y = year from the 'date' field for all item types if item type is patent, %y = year from the 'issue date' field (I think that the 'date' field is not defined for patents. If someone tells me otherwise, I will change this rule) Is that clear?
-
@mark: Did you see the user-defined (and collection based) folders in new test version of Zotfile Reader? (there is now also an option for re-pushing)
-
I have made a small change so that %y is now the date for all item types but the issue date for patents. It will show up in 1.6.4, which still takes some time because 1.6.3 is still under review at mozilla (it's a full review so it takes even more t…

I just saw that there are two date fields for patents. The 'issue date' and the 'filing date'. Which one is the important one? Would it make sense to define %u as issue date for patents and as year for every other item type?

Another voice for quicksearching in note content!! The improvements with the drop-down menu are already great but searching note content as another option would really make zotero notes more useful.

I don't really see the value of "Use the first available collection path for each item" because you can simply select the first collection and all items are moved to this folder. I also don't think that "Use all available collection paths for each i…

Here is another version with the following changes: - functions are renamed ('move' and 'remove' instead of 'push' and 'pull') - folders created from collections are correctly sorted - new preference: How to handle attachments that are already on th…

1) I will change that. I am wondering whether it would also make sense to offer the lower level folders as options even when the item is not in these collections. In the example, that would add '/05_Projects' and '/05_Projects/Event Project'. Does t…

Here is a second version. Now everything should run smoothly in tab mode too. I have also added the possibility to push based on all the collection an item is in. So there are now two options for project folders" a) Project folders based on Zotero c…

Here is the first test version with 'project folders' - i.e. user specified subfolders. Project folders can be turned on and off through the zotfile preference window. This is a test version only and it would be good to get some feedback. Not only w…

I am working on something like this for zotfile reader (basically through a > popup in the right-click menu). In this case, user defined project folders are much more useful because that is the only way you can access your pdfs on your tablet. I …

Glad to hear that you enjoy zotfile. It is a zotero feature. zotfile has nothing to do with removing attachments from the zotero library. The change of the storage place also doesn't affect zotero's behavior. What might matter is whether the attach…
-
yes, that is true. Currently, there is no way to rename a file without moving it somewhere (zotfile either imports the attachment into zotero OR moves it to a predefined folder - i.e. destination folder). I will consider adding an option to leave th…

The plugin has now been approved by Mozilla. The next version 0.3 is already under review and can be downloaded in advanced from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/developers/addon/zotfile-reader/versions/ New features in 0.3 - More intelligent pull…

@ mark: The bug has been around since 1.6.0 and is solved in 1.6.3, which still takes some time simply because of the review process (currently, 1.6.2 is still under review at Mozilla). I don't really get your second comment. Can you elaborate? By …

No, that actually does not work. It is only extracting highlights that are copied to a hidden note, which is only possible in Adobe Acrobat with an certain option and not with any other program or PDF App (as far as I know). Most programs I found (s…

yes, I agree. Just didn't know how to do it right away but will look into it at some point. Anyone here who knows something about java programming? I came across this http://ecomware.com/notes/itext-export-annotations and was wondering whether I ca…

Hi, here is the next version. It includes three new things: - Pulling in background mode is now more intelligent. There are now four scenarios: a) Only the file on the reader has changed -> File in Zotero is replaced, and tag is removed; b) Only …

Updating the copy of the file in Zotero is currently possible with the 'Scan Reader...' function (Zotero->Actions->Scan Reader). It's not pushing changes from the copy in zotero to the reader. Maybe I will add some warning if the att file in z…

@ mark: Here is a new version with an implementation of two modes (I call them back- and foreground mode). You will have to start again with pushing files to your reader (the best would be if you pull all of them back before you start with this vers…

@JonEP: Thanks for pointing this out. Just corrected this small glitch. @alv: I just corrected the function to preview the renaming rules so that it also works when an attachment is selected (I think that caused the '__FILENAME' error you got. That…
-
@ mark: I am going to add this. @ roxy: Batch renaming should work both for zotfile and zotfile reader and you do not need to 'pull' them when you never pushed them. You can just use the zotfile's rename existing attachment function.

okay, I see the problem. I am neither syncing nor indexing my pdfs... I could provide the following two (or three) user scenarios, which I think would solve the problem: 1) Leave attachment file in original location and move copy of file to the re…
