zoter mac Word integration

I've been trying everything to integrate my word 2008 with zotero. I've tried all combinations of older and newer firefox, reinstalling the plugins, looked at many forum discussions on the subject and nothing works. Zotero works fine, but not the bibliographic integration.

I'm running firefox 3.6 now (add-ons in firefox five were incompatible with my older OSX)
zotero 2.1.8
and all the appropriate plugins from the zotero site.
I've also tried reinstalling the plugins several times.

Please help!

The problem is that 'word could not communicate with zotero'

    Zotero: 2.1.8
    Word 2008
    Mac OSX 10.5.8
    Firefox 3.6.19
    addons: Zotero 2.1.8
    mac integration 3.1.5
    pythonext 110710

I've tried to Reinstall Word add-in. The zotero icon appears and works fine. Word cannot communicate with zotero though. The setup worked for a long time until either zotero or firefox or both got updated at some point and then it stopped.

thanks so much for anyone's help,

With Firefox open, open /Application/Utilities/Terminal and type (or copy/paste) the following:
ls -lad ~/.zotero* /Users/Shared/.zotero*Press return and post the output here.
  • Hi Simon,

The answer is 'no such file or directory'
  • Can you provide a report ID?
  • Simon,

This is the entire text I get:

Last login: Mon Jan 1 19:54:49 on console
    localhost:~ channing$ ls -lad ~/.zotero* /Users/Shared/.zotero*
ls: /Users/Shared/.zotero*: No such file or directory

  • Try installing the Zotero MacWord Integration Trunk XPI. You will want to manually install the next version of Zotero MacWord Integration when it is released.

Thank you - that seems to have worked. Could you explain to me what the Trunk does? Also, with the next version of MacWord Integration do I still need to download the Trunk?
  • When the next version of MacWord integration comes out, just install it from Zotero.org. It will replace the trunk release.

Trunk just means the latest development code-- presumably Simon made some changes to cover users with a setup like yours. Installing the trunk is the fastest way to get nrew features, but the trunk is not guaranteed to be stable-- it is after all the code that was just written, and there's a greater risk of bugs. Hence the recommendation to switch back as soon as a stable release with this fix is available.
  • Thank you! How will I know that the new release is available? Simon said to install it manually, so I presume it will not update automatically?
