error ID#266766232

Hi,

Zotero stops working when I try to add multiple items to a group library. Is there a practical upper limit to how many items can be added at one time? I successfully added 40 but no joy with 120.

Any suggestions?

Right-click on your 'zotero' directory (your Zotero data directory), click Properties, and make sure the Read-Only checkbox is empty.
  • Hi Dan,

The data directory is indeed read-only. I am unable to, as far as I can tell, unset the read-only attribute. Windows 7 acts like it is changing the attribute but when I recheck the directory it still displays as read-only. I tried this as the system Admin with the same result. Ownership attributes show that both me as a user and as admin have full permissions.

I am curious though, why would this attribute cause an error on adding multiple items when it does not cause an error when adding just a few items?

  • This may be due to security software on your system. Beyond that, we can't help you. If Zotero can't write to the directory, you're going to get errors.
  • Thanks Dan,

I am still confused about why we suspect that zotero can't write to the directory when i can successfully add multiple items to the group library (e.g.), but can't add big loads of items (e.g. >100).

  • No idea. Weird things happen with that attribute on Windows—this doesn't happen on other platforms. But you saw the attribute yourself. This isn't a Zotero problem, and there's nothing Zotero can do about it.

You can try clearing it higher up in the filesystem, though.
