no status bar icon

I have been using Zotero for about a month and have had no problems until now. Tonight my problems started with a translator error, which could not be resolved. I removed Zotero and reinstalled both add-ons (Zotero and Word), but I no longer see the zotero folder icon in the amazon and nytimes status bar.
  • Thank you. That's correct, the address bar. Previously the icon was present but gave the translator error message when I attempted to import from Amazon. I walked through these steps with no success. Consequently, I removed the add-ons and re-installed them. Now I do not even have the icon in the address bar.
  • Go through the steps again.
  • You are great! The last step worked for bringing the icon is back but I'm still getting the "Could Not Save Item" message with the recommendation to go to Known Translator Issues webpage.
  • We'll need an example URL and a Report ID for that.

    Report ID: 1150543589

    Is this what you need?

Which items are you selecting to save in the dialog box? Or are you not getting a box?

That page seems to work for me, but you are indeed getting an error.
  • Just the one:

China: Fragile Superpower by Susan L. Shirk (Paperback - Aug 15, 2008)
  • I've gone to multiple Amazon and NY Times books and articles, all with the same error.
  • Provide a NYT example and more Amazon examples.

NY Times in now working. Amazon is still not.
  • I'll check in with you tomorrow. Thanks.

Did you check your system clock and time zone?

If you're sure they're correct, provide a Debug ID for a saving attempt that produces the error.
  • I have ensured that I followed all steps on the translator issues page.

    Here is the Debug ID
    D190723753
  • That's not a valid Debug ID. Be sure to copy and paste—don't try to retype.
  • Dan,

Sorry about that. Here is the copied and pasted Debug ID.

    D350776161
  • Any progress on troubleshooting? Could it be that there is an issue with Firefox 5.0?
  • <Error><Code>RequestExpired</Code><Message>Request has expired. Timestamp date is 2011-07-22T10:07:54Z.</Message></Error>
The error you're getting from Amazon is almost certainly because your clock or time zone is set incorrectly.

You posted that Debug ID at 2011-07-22 15:09:33 UTC. The timestamp in that debug output—which is what your system was sending to Amazon—is 10:07:54 UTC. This would happen if your system's time zone was incorrect. I've reproduced the same error here by modifying the translator to send an outdated timestamp.
  • Dan,

I went back and looked at the time zone. It was incorrectly set, even though I went through the steps again somehow that got past me, four times!!! Clearly a case of user error. Thanks for helping me fat-finger through my issues. You were very patient.

I've told all my colleagues about Zotero and those that are using it love it as much as I do. Keep up the good work!

    Andy
