I would like to delete zotero

So after installing Zotero, diligently following all the instructions, watching it crash repeatedly and finally corrupt any document I tried to use it with, I think I'm ready to part ways with this plugin.

I've removed the firefox extensions but I still see the plugin in Word 2010, so I was hoping to get some instructions on removing that too. Thanks for the help :)
  • I am fairly sure that the developers would be interested in more details of your experiences so that they can be avoided by others.

You can remove the Zotero plugin files yourself if removing the firefox extension did not do this for you. See e.g. this page for how to locate Word add-in files http://www.endnote.com/support/faqs/CWYW/faq11.asp
  • I have searched for similar errors and they seem to be quite common when documents are opened in different versions of zotero (in my case switching from open office/Linux to word/windows). I should have noted down the exact error number, but now that I've deleted everything I can't reproduce it.

In any case, I think the developers are already aware of compatibility problems, you can easily reproduce my problems by trying to run zotero on windows 64 bit and switching between open office and word. I'll try to stay in touch with the community to see if these issues are resolved in the future. I do like the idea of Zotero but at the end of the day I need to write my thesis and can't spend days at a time trying to make this work when I can just use word...

And you do need to write your thesis while alternating between Open Office and Word? I mean I've written a thesis but I would never dream of switching Word processors midway a monster project like that. Quite apart from whether that would work with Zotero or not (I wouldn't necessarily expect it, given the crazy file format of Word), there would be loads of other problems with styles and cross-references that would hold me back from expecting too much. The dream of perfect interoperability is a nice one, but in word processing it is still just that — a dream.
  • You can switch from OO to Word and back, but you need to switch the document to use bookmarks instead of reference marks or fields. I had to do this because I was writing with OO, but the journal where I submitted only accepted Word files (they did not accept ODF or PDF files)
  • mronkko - well, there are all types of problems with bookmarks, few of them Zotero's fault: There's the LibreOffice bug that completely breaks bookmarks, there's the issue with footnotes and I haven't followed this closely, but I do recall that there was a bug connected to 64bit Windows - so regular switching between Ooo and Word is tricky.

For purposes like yours, though, I just keep my files in .odt and reference marks and then just save a copy as .doc to send to the journal. That also takes care of removing all Zotero fields, which I wouldn't want to pass on to the journal anyway.
