Can't insert citation into Word2008 on Mac

I have the following setup:
Zotero 2.0
Mac 10.4.11
Firefox 3.0.18

and have installed the following add-ons:
PythonExt 2.5.20080611
Zotero MacWord Integration 3.0a8

I am having the same problem as many others who have posted on the forum, and have tried the recommended solution but still have the following problem -

I can see the zotero icon in the Word menu bar, but it will not let me add a citation. I get the error message:

“The Zotero MacWord Integration installation succeeded, but a necessary component does not appear to be loaded properly.”

When I follow the instructions to Uninstall the PythonExt and restart firefox, I do NOT get an error message saying that PythonExt is corrupted or incompletely deleted. When firefox restarts, I continue to get the original error message:

Have I missed something in the instructions to fix the problem? I'd really like to sort this out as I love the program and it's great for sharing literature lists with colleagues overseas.

thanks, Linda
  • Is there a reason you're still using Firefox 3.0? Aside from all the improvements in 3.5 and 3.6, there's a newer version of PythonExt for 3.6.
  • Yes, I'm guessing that you're running on a PowerPC (older) Mac, and PythonExt 2.5.2 doesn't work properly on this platform. This is fixed in the newer version of PythonExt, so if you upgrade to FF 3.5/3.6 and upgrade PythonExt, you should be good to go.
  • Many thanks guys - I've now updated Firefox, got the new version of PythonExt, and now have no problems inserting the citations. I guess I'm just a bit a slack about updating to new versions of software - have only just gone to Office 2008!

It's a really great piece of software so I'm glad I have it working properly now.
  • Where do I find the download site for PythonExt 2.5? I get this message every tme I open Firefox.
