Problem importing .ris format

Firstly I would like to comment that the addition of a new citation style in Standalone version needs to be improved. There isn´t an addition button to do this easily, and the restart of the PC is necessary to see the new style downloaded (http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/16652/how-to-add-extra-styles-to-zotero/).

Secondly the subject for this comment. I´m trying to download some citations from a paper (http://www.bioone.org/action/showCitFormats?doi=10.1579%2F0044-7447-29.7.432). When I used the firefox version this was an easy task, I just had to press the download button and automatically the citations were included in zotero´s database.

Now I´m using chrome 11 with standalone version, and I had to download the mentioned citations in .ris format. When I try to import them since standalone version I get the message that this is not a valid format, does anyone know why doesn´t it work and how could I import this references?

Thanks in advance and my best regards.
  • There have been updates to the RIS translator that may help in your case--

Please go to http://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/raw/master/RIS.js and save the file to the translators directory of your Zotero data directory (http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data).

Please post here so that I can submit this change to be pushed to all users.
  • aijon Thanks a lot for your response, the new RIS file works for me perfect. My best regards.
  • Hi, I'm having trouble importing RIS files with standalone (version 2.1a2) too. I tried saving the above file to my translators directory, but no dice. I even tried the file updated June 25, 2011 and restarted, but still, when I try to import an .ris file, nothing at all happens, not even an error message. I tried it with a couple different citations from a couple different databases, and none of them worked. I was able to import the .ris files successfully into EndNote, so it wasn't the files.

I'm running Mac OS 10.6 and I use the Chrome connector with Chrome 12. Is it just me?
  • Try with the post of ajlyon in May 21st 2011:

  • I did that -- that's what I meant in my first comment when I said "the above file." I also found the most recent RIS.js file in ajlyon's repository dated June 25th and installed that in the translators folder, but nothing changed with any version of that file. It's baffling.
  • Standalone 2.1a2 is out of date; Standalone 2.1a3 has been available since February.
  • Aha! Thanks, Simon. I must've used an old dmg on my hard drive to install. I installed the latest Zotero and then the latest RIS.js file, and although I'm getting "[JavaScript Application] An error occurred . . . ensure the file is valid . . ." errors, it does import the reference, so I'm happy.
