Protect Mac Deleted zotero.jar

Due to an identified threat - Protect Mac removed Zotero.jar and now Zotero does not appear as part of my add-in bar at the bottom of the Firefox browser (5). I even upgraded to 2.1.8 - it appears in the add-in area for Firefox, but is not accessible. A little help please....
  • Uninstall and reinstall Zotero from zotero.org—and remove Protect Mac, whatever that is, if it's deleting files it shouldn't.
  • So I installed from Firefox. I then tried to reinstall into Firefox and install the standalone. I get this error message and installation will not complete:

"A compter secuirty threat "Exploit.PDF-28719" has been detected in /Volumes/Zotero/Zotero.app/Contents/Resources/crhome/zotero.jar. Access to this file has been denied..."

I have to use ProtectMac because of my institutions security policies. This is the first alert of any kind that I have received from ProtectMac in 2 years.

Thanks for any grey matter on the subject!!!!
  • It's a false positive. Zotero certainly does not contain a virus. If ProtectMac gives you the option to ignore the warning, do so, and make sure you have the latest virus definitions in case they've fixed it already. We'll send a note to them.
  • Response from ProtectMac:
We are aware of the issue and have posted an update to resolve the problem. If the user selects 'Check for Updates' from the ProtectMac menu bar icon at the top-right of their computer then the new data will be downloaded and applied immediately.

Note, ProtectMac AntiVirus will also be automatically checking for updates daily, similar to the way Software Updates operate, so the user may discover that their computer has already been updated.
  • Also:
Advise the user to clear the entry in the threat list as there is additional checking once an item is placed there to track any copies/moves of the file.
  • It did work - when it updated at 8:30 am this morning, it did not pick up the update. When I manually ran the update, it did. Wow - fast turnaround. Thanks for all the help!
