Bought more storage, but storage account says I have 0mb of storage

I have zotero on a couple different computers and would like to be able to sync between them, but I can't because it says that I've reached storage capacity. I bought more storage in March, but it doesn't seem to have ever been added to my account. When I click on "account settings" it says under current usage that I have 0mg in my library and 0mg total used. Thanks for your help!

Current Storage Plan
Quota 1 GB
Expiration Mar 31, 2012
Current Usage
My Library 0 MB
Total 0 MB
  • You're probably syncing from a different account from the one you've logged into. Check the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences.
  • I'm checking, but I'm pretty sure that I'm logged on to the same account. When the alert sign comes on next to the sync round arrow, I click on it and it takes me to my account settings (which I copied above). The user name that welcomes me there is the same user name that I logged in with under the Zotero preferences Sync menu.

I tried logging in with a different email address, but it said I had an "invalid session id," so I'm returning to the previous log-in and it's syncing right now.
  • Yep, still says the same thing after I confirmed that the account settings were the same on all the computers.

You had no synced data on this account until a few minutes ago, and you have no synced files, so I'm not sure what you were syncing with before.

If you have Zotero file syncing of your personal library enabled in the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences and you're still getting the error, provide a Debug ID for a sync attempt that produces the error.

But that is the account that is listed under my Preferences and I have a ton of files. At some point it worked, because that is how I got all these files onto this computer (I didn't input them all on this computer).

Sorry, I only saw the first half of the message from my email inbox. Will get the debug id.

  • Your account definitely had no items listed about an hour ago. Perhaps you had just done a Restore to Zotero Server? (Don't do that.)

OK, so you have two Zotero accounts for some reason. The one you're logged into now and just synced—and that has 1GB of storage space—is not the one you've been syncing. But the one you were syncing previously has the e-mail address in the username of your current account as its assigned address. This could easily cause problems.

I've made a change on the server to have it always prefer the username in this (hopefully very rare) case, so if you've entered the username that's showing up in this forum thread into the Zotero client and your password is correct, it should sync with this account and you shouldn't receive a quota error. Let me know if that's the case.

If you want, we can transfer the storage account to your older account and disable this one. You'd then have to enter the username (which is not an e-mail address) for that account into the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences on all computers.

Thank you for investigating this. Clearly, I had forgotten my previous account name when I logged in to buy more storage. I'm sorry about that.

It looks like it is still syncing (I was running an errand for the past hour). I'll try restarting Mozilla.
  • I also get this message a lot from Mozilla: A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

    Script: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/attachments.js:1087
  • Here is my report ID: 1913843731
  • We don't actually need a Report ID anymore, since the problem is as I explained above.

Again, if you want us to transfer your storage account to your older account, we can do that.
  • Ok, well the change to the server that you did doesn't seem to have changed anything. It is still saying that I don't have enough quota. Why don't we do as you suggest and disable this one and move the storage to the old one.
  • OK, storage account transferred to your old account. To remove all ambiguity, you'll want to change your Zotero sync preferences to use your other username (which, again, is not an e-mail address).
  • Almost there! It appears that this computer is now syncing to the right account (not an email), but that account is not registering that there is an increased storage space:

    Current Storage Plan
    Quota 100 MB
    Current Usage
    My Library 100.1 MB
    Total 100.1 MB

Uh, that's not the right account either... That one is the oldest, but the one you've been syncing to is your full name.
  • I'm so sorry, but I can't figure out my login name. I've tried various iterations of my first, middle and last names. I reset my password, so I know that the password is correct.

It's just your first name and last name with a space between them.
  • ahhh, a space. Thank you!!!!
  • And again, the associated e-mail address is the address that was the username of the account you were logged at the top of this thread. So you should be able to reset your password using that.
