New style new cite method? Plus incompatability?

I happend to update some styles yesterday. It appears that some new styles act very diffrent from what I used before. Since I had been using zotero 2.1 and word plugin 3.1 last month, the issue seem very puzzling for me.

Last time when I start to cite, I will open FF 4 and Word, clik the very left zotero button in word, then I can chose from styles and whether i want the citation to be footnote or endnote. Then I chose what i like to cite, and insert. Everything will be inplace, citation mark in text and bibliogaphy in footnote etc.

It is diffrent now. Some style will allow me act the very same way like before(some chicago style, I used last time). The others will never give option to chose from foot note or endnote(the botton is all grey). If I use these style, zotero will not insert citation as footnote/endnote. Instead, i will only have a citation mark in text and no biblio. surely i can generate all bibliography with the zotero botton. But, it is in the text, not footnote/endnote. If I want to swich from old style to new ones, i will get a 0x80004005 error.

So it appears to me that the new styles is acting diffrently with old ones, which is not interchangeable. In this new(or old but i missed somehow) method, zotero would like to have more control, and prefer not to use word's note system.

My system info:
win7 64
ff 4.01
zotero 2.1.7
word plugin 3.1
  • I only kind of understand what you are saying, but which styles specifically do you mean? Most styles have never allowed the endnote/footnote choice - that has only ever been the cased for note based styles like Chicago or MHRA.
I don't understand what you mean by switching from old style to new style. And I don't know what a 0x80004005 error is.
If you speak German, French, Spanish, or Portuguese as a first language it might be easier to explain in one of those languages.
  • thanks for rapid reply. i speaks chinese. and chainglish :)
the error is a "translation error" in firefox.
i think i got your message about chicago style. thanks.
  • I fear we don't have any Chinese speakers among the regulars here, sorry -
we'd have to know what those other styles are - I've never seen a "translation error" in Firefox related to Zotero - could still be the case, of course.
Could you create a report ID after triggering that error?
    http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs
  • OK, i was wrong. the error is "error updating your document". Do you still want me to file the report?
This happens when i insterted citation with chicago style and try change into other which is not allow footnote/endnote selection.
  • Yes, we still need the error report ID.
  • report ID: 1651487044
  • There's no error in that report. You have to re-trigger the error before generating a report ID.
  • new ID: 752434274
  • Does this happen in a new document? If not, would you mind sending your existing document to support@zot..org so we can take a look?
  • Yes, it happen when I insert a citation as endnote in blank file, then try change style from chicago to other. Change within chicago styles is OK.
