Exporting any style results in this.style is undefined error

I am able to cite a document I started working on a few months ago, using the same Zotero 2.1

This morning started a new document, and as soon as I click cite, I get the following error:
"Zotero experienced an error updating your document.
this.style is undefined"

I tried changing the style, but I get the same error. All the styles have been downloaded from zotero repository.

Another problem I faced was an error saying some files were deleted on multiple computers and I kept getting a pop up, and my zotero seems to be constantly syncing. I use Zotero on one PC only.
  • Please provide an error report ID for the error citing
    http://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_bugs
also provide version numbers for Zotero, Firefox, your OS, and your word processor
  • Report ID: 1341071259
    Versions:
    Zotero: 2.1.7
    Word2007: (12.0.6545.5000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6554.5001)
    Firefox: 4.0.1
    OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1
  • I restarted both firefox and word. The style I want to use is : Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

I had set the style as default export. As I tried citing again, I got the same error as above. I then changed the style using the Word plugin, and selected AMA style. I was able to cite. I then used the Word plugin again to change this style to Arch Phy Med Rehab, and it worked.

I am able to cite now. I am not sure whats happening.
  • I am facing the same problem again. I opened up the document I was working on yesterday, and in which I could find a way to cite using the Arch Phy Med Rehab style as mentioned above, and tried citing, had the same error.

Here is the error ID: 341056345

I had to do the same, change style to AMA (using word plugin) and then back to Arch Phy Med Rehab, and it works.

Do I have to do this everytime? Is there a problem with the style file?

    Thanks.
  • There might be a problem with the style - Simon will have to take a look at the error report, maybe there's something in there.
For your purposes you can just use Vancouver instead - the two styles are 100% identical (at least in Zotero - you should double check and if there are any differences let us know.)
  • Thanks Adam. One thing I noticed was changing the style in Preference>Default export and then starting to cite does not work. But changing the style in the zotero plugin on word, to AMA and then back to Archives does help.

I will check the vancourver style instead. Thanks once again.
  • The default export style is completely unrelated to anything that happens with the word plugin - it just affects how citations that you drag&drop from Zotero look. There is no default style for the word plugin, you just select a style every time.
That said, your description of the error is quite clear, if we're able to reproduce this it shouldn't be hard to fix.
If you do find any differences between Vancouver and how Arch Phy Med Rehab is supposed to look let us know, that would need fixing.
  • Actually could you try one thing? Try re-installing the Arch Phy Med Rehab style from the repository and see if the problem persists.
  • Yes. It was one of the first things I did. That did not work.

    Thanks.
  • Alright, so I closed down the document I was working on. Then opened Zotero on FF. I installed the Vancouver style.

I reopened the document. Tried citing (it was set to Arch Phy Med Rehab) and the citation popup box opened up. Everything looked fine. When I clicked the "Zotero set doc pref" button, the style selected was AMA. I changed this to Arch Phy Med Rehab, and all the citations in the documents (the numbering) changed from the superscript form to normal enclosed in parenthesis. I tried selecting the Vancouver style, and that did not make any difference. I selected AMA, in hopes to get the superscript numbering back, but that did not work either.

I closed the document without saving, and reopened it. I tried changing the style directly to Vancouver style, and the same thing happened again.

In any case, Vancouver style does look the same as Arch Phy Med Rehab styling.
  • Vancouver/ArchPhyMed is designed to _not_ be superscript, but indeed regular numbers in parentheses. If you want the same thing with superscript, install "Vancouver with Superscript" from the repository.
If you are sure that Arch Phy Med Rehab needs the superscript that's easy to change.
  • Also to clarify - I know that _in Zotero_ Vancouver and Arch Phy Med Rehab look the same. The latter is just a link to the former. The question is if that's correct.
  • Yes, Archives of physical medicine and rehabilitation need arabic numbers in superscript. I am sure about that. Let me double check about the vancouver and arch styling.
  • The month and issue number in Journal articles must be omitted.

I am kind of new to this, so pardon me if I mention something that seems wrong.

    Thanks.
  • OK, a new, correct version of the style should show up in the repository soon.
I've not looked at the less common citation types, so those likely still need coding.
  • Thanks again Adam. The above link has all the reference formatting requirements for the Arch Phy Med Rehabil. As I said earlier, I am not familiar with these things, so someone with knowledge may find it helpful reading the document and formatting as needed.

    Thanks..
  • Hi! I was just wondering if anyone could find out what was happening back here?

    Thanks.
  • are you still having problems? If so, please describe them.
