Bringing Chapters together

Hi - I'm sure this has been covered here somewhere before. I'm trying to figure out how to bring chapters together into a single document without losing references. For example - Chapter 1, drafted and proofed in a stand alone document, contains references placed using the Word plug-in.

Chapter 2, same situation...and so on.

When it's time to consolidate these documents into a single doc - how do I do that while maintaing the field codes used by Zotero to denote the citation - and then generate the bibliography at the end of the document?

If I just cut and paste - the field code data disappears. I can't go manually re-do all the refs - that would be very time consuming - and I didn't want to draft the document in a single word doc - as that becomes cumbersome for a number of reasons.

Thanks
  • Cut and paste does not preserve the Zotero links? That's always worked for me. Does it not work on all platforms?

It did not preserve the links no. I set up a little test as I don't want to get to far into the process without knowing how to bring it all together at the end.

I made one word doc - with 2 refs

Another word doc with 3 refs - 2 different from doc 1 and one repeating a ref - but when I cut and paste all 5 into a new word doc (the sample consolidation) - I could not generate a bibliography - as there were no field codes - and - since in each doc - ref numbers starts over - I was looking at inaccurate citation referencing.

the problem is that you pasted into a new, empty document. You can either paste doc 2 into doc 1 or you need to set up the empty document by either selecting a citation style using "set document pref.." in the Zotero Word plugin or by inserting any single citation (which you may later delete).
  • Ahhh - ok. I think I understand now. I redid my little test exercise and was able to cut and paste from Doc 2 into doc 1 - and then regenerate the Bibliography - and that worked as I had hoped.

    Thanks much!!
