citation within citation

HI can anyone help me please? how do i use zotero to quote an author whose work is referred to in an article

    I use the prefix function to add something like "Smith quoted in " to the actual citation.

    But it occurs me we probably need a better, more structured, way to handle this. What happens, for example, if you don't otherwise cite the secondary item?
