Proxies coming back from the dead - Debug ID D771040932

I'm working on a mac os x 10.6.7, with firefox 4.0.1 and zotero 2.1.6. When I first started using zotero I was at a certain institution and used proxies extensively to access the uni's library from home. Now I've changed institutions and have had lots of problems with the proxy settings.

Initially, every site I ever visited from the uni's network gave me the 404 Not found - error. That was fixed by going into the zotero preferences and unchecking the box for that uni's proxy server. Problem solved. Also, even if I couldn't access these sites in firefox, they worked fine in safari, chrome etc.

Yesterday, I needed to log into old uni's library to access an article at www.agu.org. All went well. Since then, however, I haven't been able to load the agu.org website without getting the 404 Page not found-error, complete with the old proxy-address in the address bar. This doesn't happen with any other site that used to go through the old uni proxy. I cannot find ANY addresses in the proxy settings for neither zotero or the network - every checkbox is empty and no addresses anywhere. Nonetheless, the problem now is present in all browsers on the computer.

I have tried disabling zotero (sometimes that works, sometimes not, and I haven't been able to replicate it), clearing caches and histories, restarting the browsers and also restarting the computer. The problem persists. I'm at a loss how to proceed.

Thanks for your help!
  • So you've checked proxy settings for Zotero, for Firefox, and in your operating system's own networking preferences?
  • If this ever happens with Zotero disabled (and if you don't get a Zotero notification during the proxying), this doesn't have anything to do with Zotero.
