Collections folders

Hi, First of all what a great program. Having played with zotero for a whilst, I have one question. Is it possible to change the order of the collections folders in the collections pane once they are established? Being of a somewhat disorganized mind I now have several folders that logically should be in different positions in the pane. I have searched the forum and the web generally, but haven't found a way to do this. In ECCOpro for example this can be done by alt-uparrow. If anyone can help that would be a help. If it is not possible, should it be a feature?
  • It's not possible.
  • You can change the sort order of your collections by adding numbers to the front. So for example if you change your "Zeppelin" collection to "01 Zeppelin" it would move to the top of the list.
  • Certainly not quite what you are wanting, but you can create a new collection and make it a container that you can drag and drop other collections into. That can help with organizing a haphazard list of collections.

You can also rename a collection, adding a number as Tjowens suggested, or you can change it to anything else you want as well.

In the absence of what you really want, I think there are some work arounds that can get you close to the effect you are after.
  • I use numbers to order my collections:
    01_Get Now
    02_Get Later
    03_Never Get

    And it works pretty well.
  • Why not just (in a future edition) duplicate an "organise bookmarks" type of function as in Firefox but to order collections? (With separators, drag and drop positioning etc) This could kill two problems at once; organising collections so they made sense, and also using sub-sections of collections as an outliner for projects, something I am really hoping to do.
