Unable to restore library on a second PC - Report ID 321371567

Dear Zoteroans,

My laptop was damaged and I had to get a new one. Unfortunately, i am now unable to sync it down to my newly installed firefox and zotero. I have tried merely syncing, and then restoring from server, but i get the same "Invalid response from server" everytime.

My library is under 1000 items, but about 80 MBs as I have various PDFs and notes. I can still view it correctly on zotero.org

I appreciate any help!
  • Can you provide a Debug ID for a sync attempt that produces this error?
  • Do you mean the report ID provided for the error when reported? It is on the title of the post, sorry: Report ID 321371567
  • follow Dan's link - he'll need a Debug ID, not an error report.
    http://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output#debug_output_logging
  • I had read the link but somehow understood them to be the same thing - I apologize. The Debug ID is D369047829
  • Also, another computer that already had the library downloaded is now unable to sync as well. I will try to get a debug code on that too - the error is different - instead of "invlaid response from server" it is "empty response from server"
  • Still having trouble?
  • Yes, I even manually imported the old library into the new PC, but it still does not sync. same error. let me know if it would be helpful to provide a new error report and debug ID.

    Thanks!
  • "Manually imported" meaning Zotero RDF? Don't use that to transfer data between machines. If you did so, do a Restore from Zotero Server or you'll end up with duplicates of your entire library.

Yes, please provide another Report ID for a sync attempt.
  • Yes, i imported a Zotero RDF. I guess it's a good thing it hasn't synced after I imported then.

it takes a few minutes for the error to come up. I will clear and restore right now and will post the debug and error ID's in a few minutes. thanks for your help
  • This is a very strange error. We don't recommend this often, but if you're still getting this, try reinstalling Firefox. Also temporarily disable any security software that might be interfering with Firefox.

If this is a laptop, try syncing from a different network if possible.
  • Ok,

as soon as it is done trying to sync, I will get the error codes to you and then try uninstalling Firefox4, disabling anti-virus and firewall.
  • Report ID: 709739301

It seems that the Debug logging stopped when firefox restarted to reset zotero. I will try again by just logging an attempt to sync and will send you a Debug ID
  • Debug ID is D493252245
  • Ok there are the debug I and error reports.

I have attempted everything you suggested (reinstall, antivirus off, firewall off, different network), and unfortunately, to no avail .....
  • Anyone got an idea?

I was thinking that I maybe should import a Zotero RDF and then Reset the data on the server and replace with local data - sound like a good idea?
  • Have you tried syncing into a new Firefox profile?
  • Huzzah! It worked!

In the new profile, the reset from server to local library worked on the first try!

Dan, thank you for sticking with it and figuring this one out!
