Zotero 2.1 and Firefox 4 - Library is here but can't access...
Hi,
After upgrading to Firefox 4 and many technical efforts, I'm still having big troubles to use my Zotero Library.
Here is the all story (I'm using Mac OX). Last friday, I upgraded my browser from Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 4. The first time I opened Firefox 4, Zotero asked me to wait because it needed to update the library database. The updating process started and it was completed with a message saying that it was successful.
Once the browser Firefox 4 opened, I decided to also open Zotero in order to access my library. And here start the big problem...
Trying to open Zotero, the browser slowed down considerably and after 30 seconds Zotero window finally opened. However, even if my Zotero library appeared on the left window, the central windown was dispaying the following message "Error happened. Please restart Firefox". Below is the ID Report 1192329369.
[JavaScript Error: "[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIFile.remove]" nsresult: "0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/data/item.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 3974" data: no]" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/data/item.js" line: 3978}]
[JavaScript Error: "uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIFile.remove]" nsresult: "0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/fulltext.js :: clearCacheFile :: line 957" data: no]"]
[JavaScript Error: "mal formé" {file: "moz-nullprincipal:{4543c520-4efe-fb4b-afd9-c2491bbea164}" line: 1 column: 1 source: "‰PNG"}]
[JavaScript Error: "mal formé" {file: "moz-nullprincipal:{b6cd0d44-bcc9-e041-aa9e-be668eaa1243}" line: 1 column: 1 source: "‰PNG"}]
In order to solve the problem, I've tried several things :
1) Proceed to a backup. At the end, the problem is still the same. The first time I open Firefox 4, Zotero is asking me to wait until the database update is done. Then it says that it has been updated successfully. When I'm trying to open Zotero in the browser, everything slow down and then the error message is appearing. The strange thing is that I can see my library with all categories on the left, but can't acess them.
2) Repair the database with the Zotero Database Repair Tool (https://zotero.org/utils/dbfix/) and it doesn't work. In fact, after couple minutes running the tool, the webpage appears saying that there is an error proceeding with the server.
3) Repair the database with the Terminal tool. When it's done I can open Zotero, but it doesn't show my library. Something very strange because when I'm going to "storage" in Zotero files, all items from my initial library are displayed.
4) Try to get back to Firefox 3.6 and reinstall Zotero 2.1, but I'm having the same problem with the display of the error message.
Thanks for your help,
Ben
