    nope, that's not a style issue - nothing I can do in the APA style specifically.
    I think this has come up before for translators (which is where the hyphen would come from) but not sure.

    Hi!

    I have a problem with using the APA 6th ed. in my dissertation. First, when I have several papers from the same author, the a/b/c differetiation doesn´t appear, neither in the text nor in the bibliography. Secondly I would like to only the authors last name to appear and "et al" instead of the German abbreviation. Does anybody have a solution for my Problem? Is there some update maybe I missed out on? And is there a German supprt team?

    1. No a/b/c disambiguation is weird - can you give a specific example? And which Zotero version is that?
    2. Only last names - I assume you mean in text?

    3. et al. - that depends - if you want the other terms (e.g. Hrsg. instead of ed. etc.) in German it's necessary to atually change the style

    ah, fein. Deutsch ist für mich einfacherer. Deine Meinung ist sicher ausreichend gut. Den Einträgen nach scheinst Du Ahnung zu haben :) Also, im Text erscheint es z.B. so:(R. M. Bauer, M. E. Mayer, u. a., 2009), da macht es halt mal Ricarda M., mal R.M., das wäre schon mal gut, wenn das weg wäre, aber da hast Du mir ja den link geschickt. a/b/c hab ich halt jetzt nicht entdeckt und ich kann es auch nicht manuell machen, da ich schon nicht mehr weiß, auf welchen BAUER- Artikel sich das jeweilige Zitat bezieht (generell: gibt es da eine Funktion, wie man von dem unterlegten Zitat im Text direkt zu dem jeweiligen Artikel im Literaturverzeichnis springt? und wie genau mach ich ein Backup von meiner bestehenden Zotero Literaturliste? Ich habs auf Englisch nicht verstanden und dann gedacht: mein Computer wird schon nicht aufmucken....)
    Im Literaturverzeichnis erscheinen die Artikel dann so: s.u.. Ich hab mich ehrlich gesagt ziemlich auf Zotero und den Button im URL- Feld zum Informationen speichern verlassen und das alles nicht nochmal nachgeprüft...
    Und nochmal ganz grundsätzlich: Ist APA überhaupt der derzeit beste/gebräuschlichste Stil für eine deutsche Dissertation? Meine Promotionsordnung sagt, es muß nur alles eindeutig und üblich zitiert sein. Also ich hab gar keine konkreten Angaben, wie ich es hier schon in den Foren gelesen hab. Bin da ziemlich alleingelassen worden, weshalb ich derzeit leider etwas ohne Orientierung bin...

    1. Backup: Das Grundprinzip ist Deinen Zotero Ordner zu finden, Firefox zu schließen, und dann eine Kopie des ganzen Ordners als Back-up zu machen.

    hat details auf Englisch, wenn Du was nicht verstehst frag nach.

    2. Grundsätzlich stellt sich die Frage ob Du "amerikanisch" - also mit Autor und Jahr in Klammern - oder numerisch zitieren willst (also mit Zahl im Text un Literaturverzeichnis). Für ersteres ist APA sicher einer der besten Stile, für letzteres würde ich wohl Vancouver empfehlen. Als Alternative gibt es noch den einen oder anderen Stil der speziell für Deutschland ausgerichtet ist - Havard 7 im style repository z.B.

    3. a-b-c: Der Stil setzt halt stattdessen die nachfolgenden Autoren um Zitate zu unterscheiden - das ist nach APA korrekt - passt das für Dich nicht?

    4. Und nein, vom Zitat ins Literaturverzeichnis kann man z.Zt. nicht ohne weiteres.

    Hi, thanks for providing the citation style for APA 6th edition. It looks great. I just noticed and fixed a very minor detail (https://gist.github.com/889566) - APA publications do not note the issue number in parentheses after the volume number. Instead, the issue number is simply not listed in references. (The same issue applies for all APA publications in Zotero's repository - e.g., Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.) Apart from that, it looks good to me.

    that's actually not quite correct: The issue number is provided where journals aren't paginated continuously throught one volume/year. Since APA is a very general style used in various disciplines, we've decided to leave this additional information in the style - I'm not 100% happy with this, because it's likely that it should be excluded in more cases than not, but on the other hand throwing out potentially necessary information is a bad idea.
    There is no good way to incorporate information about continuous pagination in Zotero. It also seems like a bad idea to include two versions of each. So this is all a bit tricky.

    ah, ok. also gibts bei mir kein a/b/c... find ich persönlich irgendiwe sehr unübersichtlich. ich schau mal, ob bei dem styles link was dabei ist. ist ja ne ganze menge auswahl. das mit dem backup krieg ich schon irgendiwe hin :)

    also, ich hab mir mal die styles angeschaut und den Harvard 7, den du vorgeschlagen hattest find ich schon mal besser. der macht nämlich z.B. die a/b/c Unterscheidung und es gibt keine vornamen im text. Aber mir sind dann doch noch ein paar sachen eingefallen, die ich wohl beachten sollte und bei denen du mir helfen könntest :)
    1. es erscheint u.a. statt et al. im Text, obwohl es in dem Bsp. auf der style- seite mit et al. angezeigt wird. bei den anderen sachen oben hab ich keine präferenzen. kann ich das also nur das ändern und den style beibehalten?
    2. kann man die artikel vom gleichen autor in der bibliographie auch nach erscheiungsjahr sortieren? könnte ich die position des eintrages problemlos, d.h. ohne auswirkungen auf die zitatezuordnung, manuell ändern? (so viele von diesen fällen, die ich ändern würde hab ich nämlich nicht)
    3. kann man die klammern in eckig umändern?
    4. zeilenabstände und ausrichtungen kann man in den bibliographie ja auch manuell ändern. bleibt das folgenlos für die zitatzuordnung im text?
    so, das hab ich mir in der letzten halben stunde noch überlegt :) hast du eigentlich auch sowas wie eigenes forum, wo man dich direkt anschreiben kann? dann müßten die anderen die lästigen deutschen einträge nicht mitlesen...

    5. wie verbinde ich mehrere zusammenstehende Zitate? bsp.:Da die AdVance- Schlinge nicht durch eine Kompression wirkt, muß für diese Methode eine Restfunktion des Sphincters vorhanden sein (Rehder, Gozzi, 2007)(Gozzi u. a., 2008).

    Für 1, 2, und 3 muss man halt den Stil anpassen - ich werde erstmal nicht soviel zeit haben, aber so schwer ist das alles nicht:

    4. ist kein Problem, wobei Du am besten den Word Format-Stil Bibliography änderst und nicht das Format direkt im Dokument (das wird dann nämlich wohl wieder überschrieben).

    5. Multiple Sources im Word Plugin. Nachträglich verbinden geht nicht, aber nachträglich hinzufügen geht mit edit citation.

    Hi, I do not know if anyone else is encountering this problem, but when I am using Zotero for my references in Word, it acts a little buggy. The initial citations will appear fine, but when I add more citations to the paper, it occasionally will change earlier ones and the new ones incorrectly by adding a, b, or c etc. to the end of the date when this should not be done (e.g., Author X et al., 2000b even when this is the only paper by Author cited in the entire paper). I have been manually correcting this each time, which normally would not be such an issue except that it happens quite frequently. Any idea what is going on and how to fix it? I am using Zotero 2.1.6, Zotero Winword integration 3.1, Firefox 4.0, and Word 2007.

    we've seen this intermittently reported - this isn't a good thread for it, though - it's not related to APA - start a new thread and maybe someone can point you to existing discussion - this needs to get fixed...

    (The stray year-suffix issue is due to a bug in the processor that was recently fixed. The updated processor will appear in the next Zotero release.)

    I'm citing a few R packages in an article I'm revising at the moment, and it looks like the reference style for computer program entries may need to be updated. As I understand it the correct APA 6th style would look like this for, say, the boot package:

    Canty, A., & Ripley, B. (2010). boot: Bootstrap R (S-Plus) functions (Version 1.2-42) [Computer program]. Available from http://cran.r-project.org/package=boot

    I don't have the full APA 6th manual handy, but have based this off the style guide for electronic resources that was published shortly before the 6th ed. Another example is available at http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/10/

    Key elements that differ from the style as it currently stands:
    The program title should not be italicised
    Version number appears in parentheses after the title
    "Computer program" appears in brackets after the version number
    The url is prefaced by "Available from" rather than "Retrieved from". As a sidenote, a retrieval date only seems to be required if no version number is present. If a retrieval date is used, display should be "Retrieved May 1, 2011. Available from http://cran.r-project.org/package=boot"

    I'm unsure whether place and company/organisation information should be included in the reference - perhaps someone who has a manual handy could check?

    yeah computer programs are an issue - I'll take a look but I can't promise much. I don't think Zotero maps computer programs to anything useful (it goes straight to book) so there might not be much I can do.

    However, I just noticed that the version field might only exist for computer programs. I might be able to hack something with that, but that is labor and thought intensive, so it won't be in the next couple of days.

    First off, I wanted to say that I am very grateful for the upgraded Zotero's improved ability to add authors to disambiguate "et al." citations.

    Second, I believe I've identified a minor bug in the APA style. It now separates multiple parenthetical citations with a comma, rather than a semi-colon. That is, if my citation SHOULD be (Cuddy, 2005; Giles et al., 2000), it instead looks like: (Cuddy, 2005, Giles et al., 2000). I believe the problem is that in the new apa.CSL (the relevant snippet is below), the layout delimiter should be "; "
