ID 1252989619 "An error has occurred. Please restart firefox"

Hi,
I am using Ubuntu 9.1 and firefox 3.6.15
I updated from Zotero 2.09 to 2.11. It is possible that I installed some Java updates after that.
Following these actions I get the
"An error has occurred. Please restart firefox".
Someone else suggested to disable all other plugins. I tried that did not work.
Here is the error

[JavaScript Error: "browser is not defined" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/proxy.js" line: 410}]

[JavaScript Error: "[Exception... I am considering reinstalling and reinserting my library but it would be nice not to have to.

Ola
  • Hi again,
I downgraded to 2.0.9 and restored the old database.
Works again so Java was probably not the problems.
Any ideas of what is wrong would be appreciated though because I will be stuck with 2.0.9 otherwise.

    Thanks

It's a permissions problem in one of the 'storage' subdirectories within your Zotero data directory.
  • Interesting, I tried to change the permissions of essentially all other files but not the storage directories. There seems to be a general problem i.e. that the permissions were not updated to match the new version of zotero.

    old permissions: dr-xr-xr-x
    new permissions: drwxr-xr-x

A few of the directories had been updated (perhaps those that were moved during the update) but for the majority these were left as dr-xr-xr-x. I am not sure if this is specific for my setting otherwise it should be a general problem.
    Thanks!

All directories Zotero creates are 755 or 700. Nobody else has reported this, so it may just be something on your system.
  • I think it may be caused by that I restored from a backup recently that had spent time on a windows file system (where permissions are lost). After that I had some problems that I manage to fix by changing some of the permissions. Apparently this error was accepted by 2.0.9 but not 2.1.1

    Thanks again.
