the right panel is difficult to use

All my recent entries into zotero have problems in the right panel. The text is now shadowed and difficult to read, the fields are no longer clickable and I can't revise or add to them, and the format has changed. Now the fields available to view (if not to change) below the View Snapshot and Show File buttons have shifted -- there's only Filename, Accessed Date, Pages, Modification Date, and Index.

Below that is a modification bar (like the one in Microsoft Word) with buttons that allow to change text appearance -- bold, italic, larger, smaller, etc.

Finally, below that, and sometimes overlapping the modification bar are 2 fields -- Related, and Tags. Both are clickable.

Can someone help? I'd really like my right panel back to usable (and readable) shape!

  • First thing would be to uninstall any custom themes or personas in Firefox.
If you don't have any, make a screenshot, upload it to a free image hosting site and post a link here.
  • Okay, that got rid of the shadowed text -- thanks so much!

However, the other problems are still there. To add more data to this problem, I've found that the problems listed above (now that the shadowed text is gone!), apply to creating a new zotero entry which is a document or a pdf or some kind of file. If I'm just entering a webpage, the right panel looks normal. And that's true whether it's a document I'm citing from the web, or from my desktop.

    Any ideas, anyone?
  • that's intended - while you can have a document by itself in Zotero, you can't add metadata to it - for that, it needs to be attached to a bibliographical item.
For pdfs, right click on the pdf and select "retrieve metadata from pdf" (if that doesn't yield results, you'll need to create a new item and attach the pdf manually)

For other documents, right-click and select something like "attach to a new item" - not sure how that's called exactly, I never use it.
