Making Numbered Citations Appear As A Range?

Hi all,

I am preparing a manuscript for submission to a journal that has the following requirement:

All references must be cited in the text and should be denoted using numbers in square brackets before the punctuation., e.g. [1, 3–5]. References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear.

However, if I have references as in the example they appear as [1][3][4][5]. Is there a citation style I can use to get them to appear as a range? I have edited Zotero style files before, but am not sure how to solve this issue.

I will be very grateful for any help!

  • most numerical styles do this already (e.g. Vancouver with brackets) - you'll have to use the "multiple sources" button in the plugin, though.
  • Thanks very much Adam Smith. Now that you told me about "multiple sources", I'll experiment with numerical styles to get the right formatting.

    Thanks,
