Problems with EBSCO & Academic Search Premier

I get a "cannot save" error trying to download from either of these databases. However, I can download using Wilson. I have taken all the steps recommended in site translator issues. Nothing rectifies the problem. Can anyone help me? This problem began yesterday while I was downloading from Amazon.Com
  • To simplify--or complicate--the problem. When I download from wilson, I can do so only through the multiple works plug-in (when the little yellow folder poipus up in the url bar). In EBSCO, nothing works
  • I'm having a similar problem with EBSCO, which I reach through the New York State Library's portal. I can usually save a web page to Zotero (sometimes there's no icon in the address bar, but then I can click the "Create New Item from Current Page" button); but if I try to attach a PDF by right-clicking the link to it and choosing "Save link as Zotero item", it doesn't work. Firefox tells me it's "transferring data from l.addthiscdn.com" forever, but nothing gets saved.

If I open the PDF in FireFox, there's no Zotero icon in the address bar.

I can add the PDF separately by saving it to my computer and then attaching it to the web-page record, but that's tiresome.

I get similar problems intermittently on JSTOR via the NYSL portal as well.

I have the RealPlayer Browser Record Plug-in installed, and I think it was causing a translator problem, but I've disabled that, and the PDFs still won't save via Zotero.

    Thanks for any help.

    Best wishes,

  • EBSCO: currently, automatic pdf attachment doesn't work. The link to the pdf isn't direct either, so that won't work. The way to go is to first create an item using the icon in the URL bar. Then open the pdf in Firefox, right-click on the item you created in Zotero and select "attach snapshot of current page" - note that for this to work, the pdf needs to be open in full page - not in the partial view (with EBSCO interface around it).

JSTOR: you will have to once per session click "OK" to the JSTOR usage conditions for pdfs before automatic download works. (i.e. once manually download a pdf, after that it should work.)
  • Thanks! I'll try what you suggest.
  • For the last week I've been trying to get citations from EBSCO but failing. The icon shows up in the URL bar, I can select the materials, but then I get an error - Could not save this item. What's wrong?

especially 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, and if all that fails provide a report ID.
  • @cswooster,

EBSCO has been having issues, but they have made some changes and ajlyon has recently done a lot of work on the translator. See this post for information on installing a new translator: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/18789/1/ebsco-host-translators-not-working/#Item_11

It's still not perfect, but it's pretty good. The main problem now is with multiple downloads at once (clicking the folder icon). But single items work fine. At least they did yesterday! :)
