icon in browser bar?

Hello,

I recently signed up for Zotero, and attempting to add a website to my library. In the introduction video on the www.zotero.org there appears to be a Zotero Icon to the right of the url in the top of the browser that is clicked on to add a website to one's library.

My browser, (Firefox/3.6.13) only shows a Zotero icon in the bottom right hand corner, and nothing in the browser field.

Any suggestions on how to add a webpage to my library, or how to get the icon in my browser bar would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Anthony
  • The browser bar icon will appear when you visit pages that contain bibliographic data Zotero can recognize. For other websites, you can save a copy of the page, together with its URL, using a "Create New Item from Current Page" button in Zotero itself, which shows up whenever you have Zotero opened over the top of any web page.
  • Check e.g. this URL
    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/23/world/africa/23libya.html
if you don't see an icon in the URL bar, something is wrong with your Zotero install.
  • Thank you Adam, Fbennett.

The icon thing makes sense, I appreciate your knowledge.
I'm not seeing a "create new item from current page" option anywhere in my browser. Could you guide me to that please?

Sorry for being such a noob.

This is the page I'm trying to ad to my library: http://www.kpbs.org/news/2011/feb/11/autism-friendly-dinning-offered-del-mar/

    Best regards,

  • open Zotero by click on the logo in the bottom right and then click on the page with a tiny green plus on it (next to the big green plus).
You can also right-click on your link above and select Zotero ---> Add link as Zotero item. Note this won't import much - if anything - in terms of citation data.
  • Which version of Zotero are you running? In Zotero 2.0, the button should always be there in the toolbar (not the browser toolbar, but the one at the top of the Zotero panel that is revealed when you click on that icon in the lower right corner of the browser pane).

In Zotero 2.1, that toolbar button doesn't show up when Zotero is run in a tab (since it wouldn't make sense there), but it should appear when you minimize the Zotero window, by clicking on the page icon next to the X, at the top and to the right in the Zotero tab (and then open the browser tab of your target page).
