Word install is ignored

I installed the WinWord plug-in on windows 7, word 2010 (dutch) but the zotero add-in won't load for some reason. The zotero.dot is in the startup directory and no errors are popped.

At my other computer it works fine :-s

Any ideas?
  • Seems i found the problem. There is a difference between the startup folders used by english office installations and localized installations. Resolved: http://harx.nl/component/content/article/7-productivity/30-zotero-plug-in-in-localized-word-versions
  • I am new to zotero. Today I loaded Firefox (wasn't using it before on this computer) and then downloaded and installed zotero. I followed zotero instructions for installing Word plug-in, but I do not get the zotero toolbar to show up in Word. I've tried closing programs, restarting, etc to no avail. I'm using Windows 7 and Word 2003. Does anyone know how to get this to work?

I have tried viewing the zotero toolbar under view and tools in Word, but don't see it.
  • Thanks for your quick response Dan. I have, however, tried the troubleshooting suggestions that you noted, and they didn't work.
    1.
    Close Word or OpenOffice.
    2.
In Firefox, go to Tools→Add-ons→Extensions. (If you don't see “Zotero MacWord Integration,” “Zotero WinWord Integration,” or “Zotero OpenOffice Integration” in Tools→Add-ons→Extensions, install them.)
    3.
Click the “Preferences”/“Options” button next to “Zotero MacWord Integration,” “Zotero WinWord Integration,” or “Zotero OpenOffice Integration”, depending on your operating system and word processor.
    4.
Click “Reinstall Word Components” or “Reinstall OpenOffice Components” as appropriate.

Nothing changed once I did this.

In Word for Windows and Word 2004 for Mac, make sure that the Zotero toolbar is enabled in View→Toolbars, and ensure that Zotero.dot appears and is enabled in Word's Tools→Templates and Add-ins window.

I did not see Zotero.dot in the Templates and Add-in windows so couldn't enable it.

    ANy other thoughts?
  • Did you restart Word after clicking Reinstall Word Components?

When you go to the startup folder path listed in the Templates and Add-ins window, do you see the Zotero.dot file?

See also the manual installation instructions (assuming this is Zotero 2.0.9), though those shouldn't be necessary unless you're using a non-English version of Word.
  • Yes, I did restart Word after clicking Reinstall Word Components--no difference.

I don't see anything listed under path in the Templates and Add-ins window. I apologize for being so green at this. I definitely don't see the Zotero.dot file under either of the 2 tabs in this window.

I am using the English version of Word and zotero. I can't imagine why I'm having such a problem.

    I appreciate your help.
  • It doesn't say "Full path" below the "Global templates and add-ins" section, with a path after it?

An alternative method of finding the startup folder is provided on the page I linked to.
  • Hi Dan,

Yes, it does say 'full path' but then nothing after that.

But guess what, I rebooted my whole computer, and now the Zotero toolbar is there, in Word. So it's working--I guess I just had to reboot the whole darn thing!

Thanks so much for your help.
