2.1b6 x86_64 PDF Indexing Problem

Preliminaries: Firefox 4b11, Zotero 2.1b6, Ubuntu 10.10
Today I discovered that, in spite of previously having done so with 2.1b5 (I believe), I can't extract metadata from PDFs anymore. In the "Search" tab of the preferences, I'm told "pdftotext-Linux-i686 on x86_64 is NOT installed" and "pdfinfo-Linux-i686 on x86_64 is NOT installed". The "Check for installer" button results in a message explaining that the Xpdf utilities aren't available for my platform.

Within the 'zotero' directory in my Firefox profile folder the files 'pdfinfo-Linux-x86_64' and 'pdftotext-Linux-x86_64' exist and can be run. The version files say 3.02. Making symbolic links with the -i686 versions of the names didn't seem to do anything.

Ideas? Thanks!
  • You're running a 32-bit version of Firefox on 64-bit Linux, which apparently delivers a strange architecture string in newer Firefox 4 betas. We should fix Zotero to recognize it, but in any case it's probably best to download the x86_64 version of Firefox 4.0b11, particularly if you want to be able to use OpenOffice.org integration.
