conflict window continues to pop after conflicts resolved

Hello- I have been trying to synch with my group library. We have moved a large # of pdfs off the library and deleted duplicate records. When I synched the 1st time, the conflict panel popped up with 1271 conflicts (this happened on other computers). I resolved the conflicts. I tried to synch but the conflict panel popped up again with 1271 conflicts - again I resolved them. I tried to synch a 3rd time and the conflict window again popped up (this time with 1270 conflicts). I decided to post here instead of resolving the conflicts again.

Any suggestions? The library has synched with no problems on 3 other computers.

But as for the conflicts, are they real conflicts? Do you see differences between the local and remote versions?
  • Yes, I'm pretty sure they were real conflicts. E.g. sometime a duplicate record had been deleted - that's the "remote" version that I chose.
  • Do you have any local changes you want to keep? If not, the easiest thing to do is a Restore from Zotero Server in the Sync->Reset pane of the Zotero preferences. You can also sort by Date Added/Modified, export recently changed items, do a Restore from Zotero Server, and then reimport the exported items.

Otherwise, you'll need to resolve the conflicts and then look for the sync error you're getting, as explained on the linked page, for us to be able to tell you why it's not syncing.
  • Ok - my co-worker made all of the changes. I will touch base with her in the morning. Thanks for your quick response - stay tuned.

To be clear, you shouldn't get conflicts normally—the reason you are is that Zotero is performing a full sync, which can happen for a few reasons, and the more time that elapses before you complete the sync and the more existing items that are changed remotely the more conflicts there'll be.
  • Hi Dan,
I am the coworker (owner of the group) trying to clean up the group library. We can happily go with the "restore from zotero server" option, but I thought you had told me the reset options don't work for group libraries. Time has elapsed between syncs - but not for lack of trying! Luckily now syncs are happening quite promptly for the machines that have managed to resolve the conflicts (but the others didn't have the conflicts returning over and over).
Thanks for your help with this!
  • Restore from Zotero Server works for group libraries—it just deletes your entire local database and syncs everything from the server.
  • Success! I restored from the zotero server. It gave me 415 conflicts which I resolved (interesting that this time the local and remote panes had a "choose this" button at the bottom).

    It has synched. Thanks!
  • Restoring from the server shouldn't give you any conflicts—I suggested that to save you time. You might not have actually triggered a proper restore. In any case, glad to hear it's working now.
