loosing zotero citation when copyin the word file from a computer to another one

Hello

at first i am grateful for this practical forum

i have a problem and i hope that you can help me

in fact, i worked on the computer of the lab, and i used zotero ....

i exported the bibliotheque zotero as rdf. to my computer

and then i copied the word file from the lab computer to the mine to continue the work on my computer

the problem is that when i want to add citation, zotero say the following :

"the first element doesn't exist in zotero database. do you want to delete it or......"

in other term, i think that zotero dont do the link between the copied word file and the imported database.....

i hope that i explained well my problem

and that you can help me

Thank you

N.B. excuse me for my bad english lanquage
  • Don't use RDF for syncing. Use Zotero's built-in sync function, in the Sync section of the preferences.

And feel free to post questions in your native language-- we have people here who can you help you in pretty much every major Romance, Germanic and Slavic language, as well as a fair number of Sinitic and Turkic ones.
  • thank you ailyon to your response

in fact before reading your comment, i try the option A in the following link

    http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/transferring_a_library

    and it doesn't work too

the option B is the sync...but unfortunately, it doesn't work,

i had all the references on the zotero of the new computer,

the problem is in the word file and not on the bibliotheque of zotero

there is no "link" between my word files and the zotero bibliotheque...when i want to add a citation, zotero highlight the first citation in the text and say that this item doesn't exist in zotero database, but in fact i have it in the database!!!!

i don't know if i explain well my problem

in french : je sais pas si j'ai bien expliqué mon problème

    thank you anyway
  • No, the problem is that Zotero currently has no way of telling how the items referenced by the Word file match up to the items you've imported into Zotero on the second computer. You need to copy the Zotero data directory from computer A (where you made the original citations) to computer B (where you're trying to continue work on the project), then open the Word file on computer B.

The easier option is of course to delete all the imported files from computer B, empty the trash, and enable syncing on both computers. Then Zotero will bring them in sync, and you won't need to do a thing.

If syncing isn't working, please explain what specifically isn't working: error messages, etc.

[And I'm not one of the Francophone people here, but do feel free to write your responses in French and they'll take over support.]
