Zotero Integration Error (OpenOffice.org 3.3, Mac OS X)

I am on a Mac OSX 10.6.6 and I am trying to use Zotero with Open Office 3.3.0. Whenever I try to insert a footnote I get "Firefox could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Please ensure that the appropriate Firefox extension is installed and try again." I have tried to go through the troubleshooting steps. I notice that whenever I go to check whether my Java is working, I don't see the pink box. Is that just because I am on a Mac? Or is my Java really not working. I have updated my software and that doesn't seem to make any difference. Any ideas?
  • No need to post more than once. If you don't see the pink box, Java really isn't working, whether you're on a Mac or another platform. Assuming you're running Firefox 3.6.13, make sure Java is enabled in your Firefox preferences, and that you have all of the latest Java updates. (There are some issues with Firefox 4 beta, which you can learn more about by searching this forum.) If this doesn't solve the problem, you might want to try the Firefox forums.
  • Yep, I'm in 3.6.13. I have Java enabled. I have done the software update under the apple icon a couple times. Is there anything else that needs to be done to make sure you have all the Java updates? I'll hit the Firefox forum.
  • Got it. Reinstall Firefox. Life is better now.

@benmerkle could you tell me step-by-step what you did? I seem to have the same problem...
  • milch_maedchen - he re-installed Firefox, but you should first make sure you actually have the same problem. So your Java isn't working in Firefox?
  • I don´t really now to be honest. I´ll check that.
  • I checked on the webpage that has a pink rectangle if your java is installed. I had done all the updates and had reinstalled java. But nothing worked. I didn't see the rectangle. Then I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it and then the rectangle showed up and everything started working.
