All references lost after saving in .rtf or .odt format

Hello,

I am using zotero 2.0.9 with firefox 3.6.13 running on ubuntu 10.4, lucid lynx. I installed the OpenOffice plugin, OO version 3.2., and was able to insert citations and bibliographies. After saving the document, though, all reference links are lost.

?

Thanks for help, Carla
  • if you save in .rtf that's bound to happen - the format doesn't have the reference marks that the Ooo uses by default. Same if you use Reference Marks (see Set Documents Settings in the plugin) and save as .doc
but saving as an .odt that doesn't make sense. Can you replicate that in a new document?
  • Thanks - that explains it. I used a new .odt document now, and this works. It's sad, though, because using .rtf would be better for collaborating with Microsoft Word people...
  • you can collaborate with MS Word by using "Bookmarks" and saving as .doc -
it's important to use Bookmarks instead of Reference Marks.

Note that this will not work for note-based styles like Chicago Full Note...
The solution there is to author in an author-date style and then convert the document to Reference Marks (or MS Word Fields) and Chicago style at the end.
