Conflict resolution problems

Hi. I apologize in advance if I'm missing something obvious. I probably am.

I recently upgraded to 5 gb Zotero storage because I have a large pdf library that is spread out between three computers, all of which I use and modify regularly (complicated work situation). I need the same library with the same attachments on all three machines.

Two of the computers seem to be syncing fine, but the one with the largest number of file attachments (the mothership) keeps giving me massive conflict resolution dialogues (2,000 +). I've emptied all three trashes and reset sync histories. I'm doing a full sync because I don't have one clean master copy of my library, and I don't want to do anything irreversible.

When I try to submit the debug output to the server, I keep getting an error message. Should I paste lines from the output.

Thanks in advance.--Nick
  • Was finally able to submit debug output to server. ID D174060690.--Nick
  • 1) Full Sync should never be used in normal operation of Zotero. The only way Zotero deletes items is if you manually delete them and then sync or perform a Restore to/from Server.

    2) That debug output is empty.

    3) We just fixed an issue that might have caused a lot of extraneous file conflicts. Try again.
  • Thank you. I'm afraid I have a new problem, however, which is that I cannot seem to change my preferences from "full sync" on one of my machines. Every time I make the change, click "OK," and close the preferences window, it reverts back to "full sync." The wheel has now been spinning for well over five hours, telling me that it is getting updated data from the server.
  • It doesn't work that way. Those options only apply when you click the Reset button. Ignore that pane.

But you do have a full sync going. Nothing to be done at this point other than to wait.
  • Will do. Thanks.
  • Hello. Still seems to be a problem. I left my computer on for the entire weekend so the sync could complete. Monday morning, wheel still spinning. Any advice? Thanks.
  • Are you still having trouble?
  • I'm afraid so. Two of my machine are syncing seamlessly (although without attachments). The third still won't sync. Last time I tried I got the message "Invalid output from server" code: 4505829337.
  • That's not a valid error code. You can copy and pasteā€”no need to retype.
  • Strangely enough, I couldn't copy and paste. Probably something wrong with my computer, but that's why I wrote it down, in haste. Now the message is gone.

Should I try running another sync and then submit the debugging report?
  • Mirabile dictu: Seems to be working. I'm going to quietly leave my office and let it do its thing.
  • Now it's asking me to resolve 2,389 conflicts. That's almost my entire library. Could this be right?
  • Generate debug output for the sync attempt through to the conflict resolution dialog, which you can cancel. Since it'll probably be too big to submit (though you can try), click View Output, File->Save As, save to a text file, zip the text file, and e-mail it to support@zot....org with a link to this thread.
  • Also, do you actually see anything different between the two sets of items?
  • They look the same to me. Just emailed debug output.
  • Just wondering if you were ever able to analyze my debug output. Still can't sync.
  • I just submitted new debug output (D331741423). I really hope this can be resolved. I started paying for Zotero storage back in January and I'd really like to start using it! Thanks.
  • Try the latest 2.1 Branch dev XPI. Some problems with erroneous conflicts have been fixed since 2.1.5.
  • Mirabile dictu. Seems to have worked. Thanks!
  • Great. You can probably revert to 2.1.5 for now. The fixes will be included in 2.1.6, but you might not get any more conflicts now that those have been resolved.
