  • It seems possible that the spyware software is toying with the paths of files passed into and out of Firefox (possibly by instituting a quarantine for scanning or something...). Some such software isn't very nice about disabling itself. In this case, I've never heard of the application, so I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it interferes in unpredictable ways and doesn't turn itself off when requested.
  • I've looked in taskmanager and it's not running.

I have a question however. When you shut windows down, frequently acrobat won't close and you are asked if you want to end the application. Actually it happens about every time. However, every once in a while, it asks about closing another program. A program that's not spelled in regular ascii. I cannot search on it. I saved a screen shot of it the last time (because MS didn't provide for copying the text of those messages and making sure I cannot search for the characters) and I've been wondering if it's some kind of Trojan. Take a look: http://cid-cc039c3468c49524.photos.live.com/self.aspx/screen shots/Programthatwouldntclosewhenshuttingdown.jpg
  • I've exported the zotero db without files (there was only the one pdf anyway). Strange that it did it the first time on the first article and then right after that, I went to the second article and tried the same with it, but it was broken then. Would it help to remove zotero and re-install it and then import this RDF file?
  • This is a problem on your system, and we can't help you here any further. Exporting and reimporting into Zotero would almost certainly not fix the problem, as it's not a Zotero problem. It sounds like you have some something—either your anti-spyware software or spyware itself—interfering with normal operations on your system, and there's not really anything more we can tell you. Best of luck.
  • You were wrong. I uninstalled zotero, removed the library under my account, and reinstalled zotero, then imported my previously saved export. Now it attaches saved files.
  • Glad to hear that.
  • Me too. I shouldn't have been so condescending. Would you please look at the link to the non-ascii "program not responding, close program?" screen shot above. Is it that a translator (encoder) is missing from a library for a non-ascii character set? Or, is it a program, a virus specifically, whose name is encrypted by or named in non-ascii so as to avoid being scanned? I run four separate scanners and one of them is set for real time. PC tools beat out Norton for 1011 test and it finds only low priority cookies. I'm saying, my utilities say I'm not infected, so what the heck is that program named in non-ascii that won"t close and isn't in the task manager list and i s impossible to search for?

    Here is that screen shot:

  • We support Zotero in these forums. We don't support Windows. Ask in a Windows forum or do a clean install of Windows. Zotero will work with a properly functioning system.
  • BTW, this extension (zotero) is the coolest thing I've ever seen. I"m so excited about sharing this database with my IP attorney over the zotero server.

Q: I saved all my items as "BibTex" item, a txt file (as named by freepatentsonline.com) and now zotero rejects it as a supported format. However, the page I was looking at specifically said that BibTex was supported. Maybe the page is out of date or perhaps freepatentsonline should have saved it as an .ris or something other than .txt? Regardless, I cain't get my patent items imported that I exported from freepatentsonline? Is there a reason that BibTex is not being accepted that you know-of?
  • Please search in the forums and post in a new or related thread for new issues. There is a FreePatentsOnline translator; if it does not work, please read http://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues and report the erors as specified there.
