Endless sync :-(

Hi!

Love zotero but I've not been able to sync now for 23 days on either of two computers. 1169480694 is the error report number. No error messages noted. Tooltip states "Sync with Zotero server", and greyed out "Getting updated data from sync server". Using FF 3.6.13 and ubuntu 10.10 and zotero version 2.0.9

Any help appreciated!

Paul.
  • Bump? It's now 35 days.... Tried the 2.1b but same happens. "Empty response from server" is the only message. Happened on 10.10 and later on a clean install of 10.04. Java is 6.22 Any ideas?
  • Can you provide a Debug ID for a sync that produces the "Empty response from server" error? You should never get that.
  • Hi Dan,

Thanks for your reply. I'm unable to submit another error ID as the process hangs on the "Submitting ID" page. Don't know if that's significant or not. There appears to be a rather large number of Java errors listed though on the previous page... I've removed the OpenJDK and am running only (as far as I'm aware!) Sun Java 6 v22. For what its worth, nothing has changed in terms of error messages etc. since the message above.

Is there any other way to submit the debug id??

To be clear, I asked for a Debug ID, not a Report ID. Make sure the output is cleared, reproduce the "Empty response from server" message, and send in the debug output. If you can't submit it, save it to a text file, zip it, and e-mail it to support@zot....org with a link to this thread. But we don't need error output, just debug output.
  • Oops- My bad, sorry. I've trird to reproduce the error message (which is a bit tough really as I don't know what I'm do D1376238239.ing to get it in the first place). I've seen it once today at least but not since I've tried to log it. I've sent you the debug log anyway as it may be useful to you as the endless sync continues. I don't know if its important either but on opening FF then the Zotero window via the icon in the bottom right corner of the screen, FF hangs after a few seconds, then goes grey for about 6, then the library window fills and at this point I often see the empty server message.

    My debug ID is D1376238239.

    Thanks again!

You have a large queued download from 25 minutes ago. Clear your debug output periodically while the sync icon is spinning to get rid of unrelated output. If you get an "Empty response from server" error, immediately provide a Debug ID.
  • It's possible, though, that something on your network/computer is interfering with the large download from the Zotero server after the process is finished.
  • Cheers Dan. Does that mean that the sync is pending or still stuck somewhere?? I've not got anything like ad-block or no-script installed (unless it was bundled with the 10.04 package). Do I need to do anything with (e.g.) the firewall? I'll keep an eye on the error.
  • You now have a download from 15 minutes ago. Are you force-quitting Firefox?
  • No. I have restarted it several times without forcing it- normal shutdown- to see if I can get the error to return. That said, I have turned the laptop off with the power switch as it was playing up. I'm also having problems with BBC iplayer so I'm trying some things with that too. NO joy there either!- Might be relevant though. It seems that my internet connection drops if I try to use Iplayer for either TV or radio programmes. Seems fine otherwise- is the zotero sync doing something odd with my wifi or vice versa??
  • SOLVED: Probably...

78 days later... after countless uninstalls and reinstalls etc. its working again. What seems to have fixed it is the installation of a new update, then reset server-to-local computer, then removing all the duplicate citations that were then added (my whole library twice :( ) by hand. No idea which of the above fixed things but I'm glad its going again.

    Hope this helps someone!
