never ending arrow - sync not starting

Tech Support -

I've been through the forums, and I've tried to just let myself move forward in the queue, but my log files just show the same wait time and it seems that for whatever reason I'm just hopelessly locked.

Is there some way to unlock my database so my sync can complete?

Thanks!

Wil
  • There's no such thing as unlocking a database. You have a queued download.

  • Well, thing is, I read that page, and I gave that a try, and the download never seemed to occur.

So I was wondering if this applied? 3 hours seemed a reasonable amount of time to wait....

"No, really. It's not syncing. What should I do?

If you've been waiting for a sync to complete for over three hours and a recent “Last sync” time isn't displayed in the sync icon tooltip, restart Firefox completely and try again. (On Windows it may be necessary to manually kill firefox.exe processes in Task Manager or to restart your computer.) If you then see no change for another couple hours, and no “Last sync” time displayed in the sync tooltip, start a new thread in the forums and an administrator will check your account.

Note that this should be very rare, and for the vast majority of users the solution is simply to wait for the sync to complete. "
  • You now have a queued download from 8 minutes ago. If you're restarting Firefox, you're just losing your place in the queue.

Sorry about the browser restarts, and thanks for your rapid replies. I've now been waiting for something like 22 hours, with no end in sight.

If you tell me I'm just at the end of a long line, I have to believe you, but 22 hours seems like a more than reasonable amount of time to wait...

    Yours,

  • I see a queued download of yours finishing about 30 minutes ago, so there's no issue on the server. Your Zotero client should have downloaded that and processed that, unless you interrupted it by quitting Firefox.

    You have nothing queued now.
  • And I see another queued download of yours finishing a little under two hours ago. Firefox could appear to stall for a few moments as it processes the download. Are you force-quitting Firefox?

Hmmm... I've got several client machines (a portable and a work computer). The portable is syncing fine. The work computer still has not completed a sync.

After more than 24 hours (and receipt of your last post), I shut down the work client : no sync had occurred. I've restarted it, but I'm not optimistic. Is it my setup on multiple machines that's causing this issue?

  • I've restarted it, but I'm not optimistic.
Well, you have nothing queued now. Is it spinning?

And these were two full syncs within an hour of each other, so it's unlikely it was the portable.
  • Dan -

Was spinning, stopped due to proxy issues (which do complicate this whole thing, but which I thought I'd dealt with), and now have restarted and am spinning again...

Now it would appear that the problem is on my end. I think that my proxy is running the data from zotero through our mcafee gateway (probably because of the mime type) as opposed to just returning the data to the browser for processing.

One more way for my office to get in the way of work. Apologies for pulling you into this, when it's clear now it's on my end. Thanks for your time and attention.

  • Download queued about ten minutes ago, finished about a minute later. I don't know what's going on on your end, but there certainly doesn't appear to be a problem on the server.

If it's still spinning, provide a Report ID before restarting Firefox.
