Problems after upgrading to Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat 10.10

Hi,

I recently upgraded from Lucid to Maverick and ran into a number of issues. I have Zotero 2.0.8, OO integration 3.0a8 and OpenOffice ooo-build 3.2.1.4, Ubuntu package 1:3.2.1-7ubuntu1

Now, after upgrading I got this error:

"Firefox could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Please ensure that the appropriate Firefox extension is installed, and then try again."

Tried to troubleshoot it but didn't have any success. So I thought I'd remove the OO integration. Now after reinstalling it from FF->Add ons->Zotero OO integration->Preferences it says that it was successful. But in OO I don't see the toolbar anymore. I checked in OO's Extension manager and the OO Integration looks fine. I also checked the output of Report Errors but there is nothing related to OO.

I do have the latest Java and got rid of IcedTea a while ago. I've rebooted a number of times but still no luck. I've reinstalled from Zotero OO Integration a couple of times and it always seems a success.

Where's my toolbar?

I'm not terribly techy so I apologize for the lack of clarity

Any help highly appreciated

my first guess would still be java.
    What's the output of
    sudo update-alternatives --config mozilla-javaplugin.so

Edit: and why would you run an OS in beta when you don't consider yourself very techie? Especially with Linux that seems like inviting disaster, no?
  • Well......I upgraded because I was still having a number of issues with Lucid, so thought that it was worth the risk of using the release candidate of Maverick to see if things improved.

    Output:
    0 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so 63 auto mode
    * 1 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so 63 manual mode

    Thank you for your attention

    OK, Java looks fine.
Next try would be disabling app armor.
Instructions at the a little further down here:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#component_loading_error1

also, just to be safe, have you made sure Zotero isn't listed in Ooo under View-->Toolbars?

edit: right, it's the RC now - that should be fine then.
  • I disabled App Armor and now it works!!!

Thank you so much, Adam. I'm finishing a 400-page dissertation with 40 pages of bibliography that will need to be generated and Zotero has been immensely helpful.

    Thank you once again.

I had the same problems. Thanks Adam for the solutions. I did need to restart my system before it would all work ...
