Export Zotero Web into an RIS file

Hello,

I would like to export the entire bibliography that I stored in my Zotero web into an RIS file which I would then be importing in my EndNote at my office.

Any help will be appreciated.

  • you can't do that from the web (yet). Once you have it synced to your computer, just select "My Library" and Export---> RIS
The File won't be very big, you can send it by e-mail or carry it on a flash drive.
  • Thanks a lot for letting me know the limitation of Zotero. My laptop crashed yesterday and lost all the data in it (including the zotero citations). Is there some other way to get all the citations from the web?

yes. Re-install Zotero on any computer. Then sync to your account (this will get all your data from the web back to your local Zotero). Then proceed as above to export.
  • Re syncing on a new installation was a good idea. Unfortunately, I re synced the new library created on another computer with the old sync that I generated from my actual laptop and it kind of overwritten the previous sync. Is there somehow I can access to Zotero My Library backups? I would the bibliography generated like a week ago.
  • No. If you don't have the files from the old computer, there is no way to get that back (i.e. you can't access an old version of your online library).
Syncing two libraries, though, should not overwrite the older one - are you sure that happened?
  • While apparently the original poster didn't need it, I would like to see support for export from the website to various formats-- BibTeX, RIS, etc. The coming Everywhere initiative will provide the necessary tools to do so (specifically, running translators on the server), so I hope that the team augments online display in precisely this way: export of items and collections in established formats, even imperfect ones.

Something like good web citizenship demands it-- Zotero can afford to do the right thing and maximally interoperate.

Yes, we are planning to do this by running export translators server-side. We are also planning to provide the option to use any format supported by the client with the API.
