Firefox doesn't launch with PythonExt and MacWord Integration enabled

Current system: Mac OS 10.6.4
Firefox 3.6.12
Zotero 2.0.9
Macword Integration 3.0b5
PythonExt 2.6.2.20100203

Since upgrading to Firefox 3.6.11 (and onwards) Firefox refuses to launch - just a little "shimmy" of the desktop and then nothing. Disabling BOTH MacWord Integration and PythonExt enables it to launch normally and Zotero to work without a problem. However come dissertation time.....big problem!

I have reinstalled Firefox and the extensions (twice) and removed the suggested suspects from the Firefox preference folder to no avail. Any suggestions would be most welcome (bearing in mind I am fairly computer illiterate).

I see the problem was raised in /discussion/12592/ in May (so obviously slightly different versions of everything) but nobody seemed to be able to solve what is for me a fairly crippling problem.

Many Thanks
  • Does disabling just one of the two extensions allow Firefox to launch? What about deleting ~/Library/Caches/Firefox and the extensions.rdf file in your profile directory? Do you have any other Firefox extensions installed? Have you tried disabling them? If none of these work, it would help to have the real-time debug output from Firefox startup.
  • Thanks for replying, Simon. It seems you have inadvertently fixed the problem

Firefox would not start with either of the two extensions enabled, and I have no other extensions. However, when I restarted Firefox through the terminal a message came up to say the extensions were not fully installed in Word and to restart the latter. So I did and now Firefox is problem-free! Seems the problem is incomplete installation of the upgraded extensions in Word, which then causes Firefox to hang on start-up.

Hopefully this will work for anyone else with the same problem.
