System puts back older files

Hey Zotero users. I'm working just a few days with Zotero and encounter some problems.
This afternoon I deleted a lot of older files, after updating them via Medline/Pubmed. After syncing, these deleted files came back again, which costs time to delete again. Why does this happen?
Why the sync procedure takes so many hours?
My specs: Zotero 2.0.9
Firefox: 3.6.10
Thanks for reply. Eric
  • Can you reproduce this?

The data server is very busy this week due to increased traffic. We're in the process over the next week of switching to a new server architecture that should speed up syncing and website access dramatically.
  • Thanks Dan for your quick reply. I'm 'glad' to hear that your dataserver is very busy, so there is an explanation anyway. Tomorrow I will refresh other files in the same way as I did today. I'll keep in touch when this problem happens again. Eric
  • Dan, it happened again. I deleted a few files in folder 'Publicatie 5 Hans' and after a few minutes they came back again. F.e.: Frymoyer, Cats. An overview of the incidences and costs of low back pain. Thursday 21 Oct.10:01 (new file). I deleted the same file dated sunday 10 Oct. 22:15. I have more examples.
Do you have an idea? Eric
  • If you can recall, what happened at 10:01 and 10:12? I see an upload of four items to the server at 10:12, and one of those was the new 10:01 version of that item.
  • Are you sure you're not just re-adding these items accidentally?

The 10:01 item—unlike the older one from 10/10—has an access time of 10:01, which could really only happen if that's when you downloaded it from PubMed.

I'm not seeing a problem here.
  • Indeed I made a download from Pubmed at 10:01 (this is a continuying process these days). After that, I deleted the old file on the same subject. The synchronisation process is busy all the time, due to the slow connection, so it is difficult to make a reliable research. I don't know how to re-add accidentally. I keep watching the problem.
  • OK, the new item isn't related, then, since Zotero doesn't have any idea those two items are the same. So we can just focus on the older one.

But I don't see any sign of a deletion for that item on the server since 10:01.
  • OK, Dan. I'll keep attention on this topic and will inform you if it happens again. Thanks anyway. Eric
  • I'm desolate..after working for 1 hour, all the older files are back again (the same folder as mentioned before). I really deleted the older items with the 'delete' button. While syncing I got a lot of windows which informed me about changing/adding items on several locations. These windows produce a lot of text and can only be quitted by clicking OK.
F.E.: file Beaton DE. “Are you better?” A qualitative study of the meaning of recovery, was deleted at 14:06 (I noticed them all). The new file was uploaded 14:05:56. What is going wrong?
  • If you can reproduce this reliably, you'll need to provide a Debug ID for the deletion of an item and a subsequent sync that adds the item back.
  • And if you get an error trying to upload the debug output, click View Output, File->Save to a text file, zip that resulting file (via right-click), and then e-mail it to support@zot....org with a link to this thread.
  • Since I delete the old files completely out of the bibliography to the trash, it doesn't happen again. First I just moved out the files (in Dutch: 'geselecteerd object verwijderen' ).
Your system-update works very fine now! Thanks!
