Problem syncing from behind a proxy, Error report ID 965705695

Hi!
I'm behind an annoying proxy server here at work. I believe it does not work too stable, for example I'm sometimes refused to access internet pages which will then work just one second later.

I can't sync with the Zotero server. It is not a general problem, as it does seem to work, but very rarely. Zotero is scanning through the files, as I can see in the download line of the progress report (starting from 0/710 files and increasing). It will then stop irregularly, each time at a different file number. Restarting or rebooting won't help, also, any computer on this net is effected. I have no problems syncing at home.

I don't blame Zotero, I believe that it is the proxy's fault. However, it is usually difficult to get our network administrators solve a problem with a software they don't know and didn't install. Therefore I'm asking you for a hint I could give to our network administrators. My naive impression is that the connection is frequently interrupted, making a sync of a more than small library difficult or impossible. Maybe they could prioritize connections to the Zotero sync server? But what it its IP or URL? Or what else could they try?

Thank you in advance, this could help several scientist here in my institution!
  • We can't debug this without a Report ID, but you can try the 2.0 branch dev XPI, which includes some workarounds for proxy issues. Zotero 2.0.9, which will include those fixes, will be released within the next day or two.
  • Dan, the report ID is in the subject of this discussion. It is 965705695.

I've already tried the 2.0 branch dev XPI before, didn't help.
  • Sorry, missed that (and I see you're already on the latest branch dev build).
Unexpected status code 502 in Zotero.Sync.Storage.Session.ZFS._getStorageFileInfo()
An HTTP 502 response means "Bad Gateway", and it's not something the Zotero server returns. So yes, this is a problem with your proxy server, and it may indeed be due to the connection being interrupted.
Maybe they could prioritize connections to the Zotero sync server? But what it its IP or URL?
https://sync.zotero.org and https://api.zotero.org (and some Amazon S3 servers, but for this particular error it's api.zotero.org)
  • Thank you, I will contact my network administrators.
