bibdesk and zotero

hi, I'm a big fan of bibdesk, but can see the appeal of zotero for purposes of sharing and working from diff machines . . .

certainly have tradeoffs, esp. around where and how one manages the pdfs linked to cite. I don't see a good way to "import" the pdfs such that they are automatically associated with my .bib references imported into zotero.

one performance comparison question: both bibdesk and zotero will scrape bib information from sites like googlescholar. Bibdesk is pretty good, but I do have to correct some mistakes. Is there a performance difference between zotero and bibdesk in this functionality? This could be the tiebreaker about which to use that the base organizer.

I suppose that one can always easily export a .bib file from zotero to work with bibdesk for citing, though one loses the links with attached pdf files. Would be willing to do so if the initial data scrape was better from zotero . . .
  • you'd have to test, but as both rely on the same metadata from google, I'd be surprised if the differences were large.
  • also check out the plugin zot2bib
allows automatically adding new references to existing bibdesk library.
not sure about importing an existing library though...
