APA 6th edition help
I've been using Zotero for a while now and I've noticed some consistent errors in the APA style. I think Zotero is great, and I encourage my students to use it; however, they keep producing work with referencing errors that they attribute to the software. Is it possible to have these rectified or is there a way of adapting the APA 6th edition style manually?
For example (Zotero created):
Bishop, D. T., Karaaeorahis, C. I., & Loizou, G. (2007). A Grounded Theory of Young Tennis Players' Use of Music to Manipulate Emotional State. Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology [J. Sport Exerc. Psychol.]. Vol. 29, 29(5), [np].
APA 6th edition states that:
1). Titles should be in sentence case not title case (i.e., A grounded theory of young tennis players' use of music to manipulate emotional state).
2). No need to write vol, just the volume number
3). No need for issue number (unless each issue restarts at page 1)
4). Need for article DOI number after the page number
5). No need for abbreviated journal title (i.e., remove [J. Sport Exerc. Psychol.])
Thanks
Martin

2. Zotero's APA doesn't print vol. That has to be in your volume field.
3. Several posts on page 2 here: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/9298/2/apa-6th-new-style/
4. DOI is printed when it's in your Zotero data
5. Again, this is not Zotero doing this. Likely the data in the "journal title" field for that item is 'Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology [J. Sport Exerc. Psychol.]'
Depending on where an how you get your data into Zotero you'll have to do some cleaning up - that explains three out of five of the issues you find. The remaining two are just limits to doing things automatically. I believe I have posted instructions for removing the issue number from the APA style somewhere if you search the forum.
Note also that Zotero APA also doesn't deal correctly with large number of authors as stated in the thread cited in 3. That's the one limitation that I think we'll be able to address in the not so distant future, though not within the current version of Zotero.
