Future updates shouldn't be a problem. We'll push 3.0b4 of the branch plugin soon, at which point you can install it from the plugin installation page. In the meantime, you can stay on the dev version, which is fine. (You'll just get update notifications more frequently.)
shortcuts are not working
Are you sure you're pressing the correct keys? They're Control-Option, not Command-something.
