Error# 591700001: Trouble auto-dl'ing PDFs

Downloading PDFs used to work just fine, but seems to have broken recently.

Here are some URLs where I'm having trouble:
http://www.springerlink.com.ezproxy.library.wisc.edu/content/t6762vk7h310j768/
http://www.sciencedirect.com.ezproxy.library.wisc.edu/science/article/B6TG8-44CPV5X-6D/2/5fcae625d535919edc1f871dabd20359
http://www.jstor.org.ezproxy.library.wisc.edu/stable/3760380

As you can see, there are a number of different sites with the same problem.

Any ideas?

FF 3.6.10
Zotero 2.0.8 (set up to auto dl PDFs in the preferences)
Mac OS 10.6.4
  • PS - I just created a shiny new FF profile, installed Zotero, and directed it to the zotero directory in my other profile. Some problem. Here's the new error code: 192521057
  • Problems downloading PDFs are translator-specific.
  • Dan,

How do I fix the translators, then?

    CB
  • Though that PDF downloads for me from JSTOR. Provide a Debug ID for saving from that JSTOR page.

How do I fix the translators, then?
You don't. When they're broken, they're broken. I'm just saying there's no reason to think the problems are related as long as you have the pref enabled.

Just to be sure, are you downloading into your personal library and not, say, a group library without file sharing enabled?
  • Well, you're right! Now the JSTOR link does dl correctly, but JSTOR's been not downloading for a couple of days now. In fact, I've got about 10 copies of the PDF-less JSTOR article from earlier this evening. I anyway did a "report errors" after the successful dl and got this ID: 798756690
  • Yes, personal library. Not a group library.

For example, on the SpringerLink page, if you hover over the address bar icon you'll see that it's using the DOI translator, not the SpringerLink translator, which is broken. The DOI translator is a generic translator that never saves PDFs.
  • Sorry Dan - I'm not technical enough to follow your description. Does this mean I just sit back and wait until someone in zotero-land fixes the translator?
  • Follow which description? About the icon? Just move your mouse over the Zotero icon in the address bar. Zotero tells you what translator it's using. If it says something other than the site name, PDF downloading almost certainly won't work. And if it does say the site name and PDF downloading doesn't work, that's likely a translator problem too.

    But, yes.
  • Thanks Dan :) Good to know about the mouse-hover thing. Best of luck fixing the translators!
