APA - Line Spacing Fix?

The citations in the bibliography currently are double spaced within the citation as well as between the citations. APA should be single space within the citation and double spaced between the citations.

Is it possible for the user to edit the formatting of the citations and/or bibliography?

  • if you change the line
    <option name="line-spacing" value="2"/>

    to
    <option name="line-spacing" value="1"/>

    does that do the trick?

    http://www.zotero.org/support/csl_simple_edits
    for general instructions for simple style changes.
  • Thank you for the rapid response. I was able to successfully make the change you recommended. However when following the instructions here, http://www.zotero.org/support/csl_simple_edits, I am stuck at the final step.

    I was able to drag the .csl file into firefox, but I am not finding anyway to install it. The directions say to drag the file into FIrefox, and click Install...but I'm not finding that opiton.

    Thanks,
    Bailey
  • what happens when you drag the file? What do you see?
    The "install" is a pop-up window.
    Alternatively, try installing through the Zotero preferences --> Styles ---> click the + sign
    and then select the style file.
  • When I drag and drop into FIrefox, the text of the file appears in the browser window, with no pop-up (pop-up windows are allowed).

    When I try to install via preferences in Zotero, I'm not able to select the .csl file (it's grayed out).

    I used Text Edit for the Mac, and used plain text mode.
  • I started over again from scratch, and was successful, although I think I need to play with the style a little...

    The reference test looks ok (single space within citations, double space between), but once in my word document the bibliography has single spacing within and between the references.
  • cool. Unfortunately the line spacing in the bibliography isn't super reliable.
    In theory "line-spacing" is the general line spacing and
    "entry-spacing" is the extra space between two entries. So you might want to set both to 1?
    But my sense is that they interact with the word processor to be a little unpredictable. At least I have never been able to figure this out correctly.
    Let me know what you come up with and if that works more broadly I'll put it in the available style.
  • I might just have to chalk it up to interacting unpredictably with the word processor. Like I mentioned previously, it looks good in the reference test, but is not consistent in MS Word.

    It's ok. It's a free program, and I love it, even though it's got some quirks. Thank you so much for the quick and useful responses. I think I'll donate now...

    Cheers
