[ubuntu] Zotero Plugin OpenOffice Integration failed

Hello,

Since last update of my system, and for several weeks now, I have a
problem with the communication between OpenOffice and Zotero. I can not
insert citations from Zotero in my OpenOffice document anymore.

Report error text appearing in Firefox window :
“Firefox coudln't download the necessary component to communicate with
OpenOffice. Please, check your Firefox extension is appropriated and try
again”.

(In french: "Firefox n'a pas pu charger le composant nécessaire pour
communiquer avec votre traitement de texte. Veuillez vous assurer que
l'extension appropriée de Firefox est installée et réessayer.")

I don't think it is a Java problem, I've already checked the "pink rectangle".

I am working with the following versions :
Ubuntu Koala Karmic 9.10
OpenOffice 3.1
Firefox 3.5.9
Zotero 2.0.2
Zotero OpenOffice Integration 3.0a7

Could anyone help me with this?
Thanks,
Audrey
  • This is almost always a Java problem. Are you sure that you have Sun Java installed and have selected it as the default plug-in (see here)? IcedTea Java, which comes with Ubuntu by default, works for most sites (including the Java tester), but the newer versions are incompatible with Zotero.

Dan Stillman just helped me solve a very similar problem by disabling the AppArmor Firefox profile. You can see if the AppArmor Firefox profile is enabled by looking for firefox in the output of:

    sudo apparmor_status

And you can disable it by running:

    sudo aa-complain /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox

This fixed the problem for me, I hope it works for you! See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AppArmor for more info on AppArmor.
