No Zotero toolbar in OpenOffice writer

I'm using OpenOffice 3.2 in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I've installed the most recent Zotero (2.0.4) and related Openoffice integration add-on (3.0a8) from the Zotero website, and followed the installation instructions very carefully. I got the message that the integration add-on was installed successfully but after restarting OOwriter and even after rebooting I still can't can't get the Zotero toolbar to appear or Zotero to appear in the toolbar menu. I've checked that Java (Sun 1.6.0_20) is installed. What's the problem? - am I missing something? Is it an OO problem? Ubuntu?, Zotero??
Much thanks for any help!
  • Here is the error report number: 1631447303
    cdstuart
  • so to clarify - the toolbar just doesn't show up. You don't get any additional error message, correct?
  • That's correct. However along with the message that it was successfully installed, there was (anomalously) the yellow triangle with an exclamation sign in it indicating - presumably - an error of some kind.
  • I'm at my wits end!! Zotero is essential and I can't get the plug-in running. I've tried everything, including the reinstallation of Sun Java (on Ubuntu (10.04)) Still no toolbar in OpenOffice (although message on reinstallation says it was done successfully). Can anyone help? Using Firefox 3.6.8
  • Do you see the extension listed as installed in the OO extension manager?

If not, install the .oxt manually from extensions/zoteroOpenOfficeIntegration@zotero.org/install in your Firefox profile directory.
  • Thanks for replying Dan.
Yes definitely it is there in the OO extension manager and indicated as
    installed.

It looks like I couldn't see it right in front of me. Instead of being "Zotero" in the OO View-Toolbars dropdown,(as it was before I updated) it is listed as "Add-on 1". As soon as I clicked on this the Zotero toobar apeared. Anyway it is there and seems to work. My apologies for the confusion and thanks for your patience

  • I've tried install zotero OO integration plugin in Crunchbang linux, which is based on Ubuntu Karmic. My environment is OO 3.1.1, zotero 2.09 and zotero OO plugin 3.0b2. I've installed sun-java6-jre and sun-java6-plugin, also. However, when I launch OO, I cannot see zotero toolbar. Searching the web and instructions in zotero homepage, I've tried to reinstall plugin several times, only to find that my OO is devoid zotero toolbar. I don't even have a single error message. Ad Dan Stillman suggested, I've checked the extension manager in OO and found no zotero extension there. Dan recommended, in such a case, to manually dowolad and install .oxt file. But where can I find .oxt file and how to install it?
  • download (not install!) the plugin .xpi (with save as...) then open the .xpi with archive manager - it's like a zipped folder - looking around abit you'll find the .oxt.
  • Thank you, adam! I'll give it a try.
