Install problem with Zotero, Dropbox

I have been using Zotero 2.0 for awhile on my existing two Macs (iMac and MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard 10.6, Firefox 3.6.3, Zotero 2.0.3), using a data directory located on Dropbox to synchronize between the two of them. This still works well.

Starting in a new office, I now am trying to install Zotero on a new Mac desktop (10.6.4), with a network managed profile (although I do have admin privileges). I've installed Firefox 3.6.8 and Zotero 2.0.3, but now I can't open the Zotero window at all, and it shows a yellow (!) triangle.

When I try to configure the Zotero plugin in the add-on window, and to direct the data directory to my Dropbox, it first freezes up, and then shows a long string of characters for the data directory. I then can't change the data directory at all.

    Third party syncing of the data directory is discouraged, as there is no good way for the utilities to keep your zotero.sqlite file in sync. Trying to use a third-party tool to sync the data directory can definitely cause (irksome) sync conflicts and many third-party tools can cause actual corruption of the zotero database.

    This sounds to me like an issue with dropbox and/or with your network-managed profile & not with Zotero.

    Presumably, there is more information if you really want to troubleshoot your unsupported configuration. I don't think that you do, but see:

    Hi all, I solved this problem. It was with my network managed profile.

    FWIW, I've found Zotero and Dropbox together to be much better than Zotero Sync.
