too slow

I love this program. I was so excited when I stumbled across it. I spent the whole day carefully transferring and consolidating my library. BUT. The in document citation is waaaay to slow. I have thousands of refs. to put in and it just clunks and clunks!. I am going to export back to endnote for the in document stuff, and keep my library in Zotero.
Does anyone know why Zotero is so slow (one apple, two apple, three apple). Endnote is instant, and thats what I am used to.
  • how large is the library?
    Which OS?
    Which Word processor.
  • I am using 2008 word and OSX 10.58. I only have about 250 refs. in the library but the document is 200 pages long. I am using zotero anyhow, gave up on the idea of swapping..maybe I just need to learn a little patience!
  • On OS X, EndNote uses private interfaces to Word that aren't available to Zotero, which is why Zotero is significantly slower. (We have tried to contact Microsoft about using these interfaces on several occasions, but they have yet to respond.) As far as speeding things up, your options (in order of convenience) are:

    1) Switching to Draft view, if you haven't already
    2) Deleting the bibliography at the end of your document, if one exists. (You can still add it when you are finished writing.)
    3) Splitting up your document into multiple parts and combining them when you are done
    4) Switching to OpenOffice.org
  • Thanks kindly for your feedback. I'll give it a shot.
