Tags to multiple selected items

I love Zotero, but I can't do something so basic that I assume it would come built-in. Why can't we give a tag to multiple selected items in a library? Creating one tag at a time per time is tedious and unnecessary. Is there someway around this?

    You can select multiple items and drag them onto a tag in the tag selector.

    thanks for the comment. I was quite frustrated and hence posted a rather naive comment.

    However, I would still advocate a way to simultaneously edit multiple items. And I still see a problem with dragging books on to tags if I'm overloaded with 100s of them.
