Missing features in bibtex/jabref import
Hello!
In addition to the problems others have mentioned here when importing jabref files (must remove part of it to get it to import at all and PDF-links are not imported) and migrating from jabref in general , I'd like to add some:
- Zotero ignores crossreferenced items. That is, if I have an entry for a whole book (an anthology) and then another entry of one of the book chapters, then of course I want the info from the whole book to be imported through the crossreference (preferably preserving the crossreference itself, so any update to the book entry will propagate to the individual book chapter entries too).
- Since the main point of using JabRef is its support for BibTex, and indirectly also LaTeX, I hereby request Zotero support for LaTeX citing.
- JabRef + its corresponding bibtex file + all PDF's can be put in a dir on a USB-memory stick and easily brought along to any computer (with java installed). I suggest that easy moving between different computers is kept in mind for Zotero as well. I find the current way of operating, deeply hidden in a subdirectory in "documents and settings/application data/blahblah" a bit of a limitation in this respect. Note that I am not talking about putting my database online or so now, but rather the case when you need to bring along your references and documents somewhere where you do not have an internet connection.
Just some thoughts! Zotero looks very promising!
Small note (which doesn't really belong here, but I can't be arsed to post another entry): The Word plugin ended up in a directory not recognized by my Word 2003 installation "Startup" and I had to move it to the folder named "Autostart" instead to make Word recognize it.
Have a very nice day!

This is an old discussion that has not been active in a long time. Instead of commenting here, you should start a new discussion. If you think the content of this discussion is still relevant, you can link to it from your new discussion.
Could you also, in Word, look up the preference found at:
Tools>Options>File locations>Startup directory
And in the registry the values at the key (you can use regedit for this):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options\STARTUP-PATH
Those pieces of information might help me in understanding what went wrong.
